Released on the 11th to the general public, I found some in Boston over the weekend. As much as I like Sunday Morning Stout and Mole Framinghammer, I find this particular release to be pretty exciting.

"As the name suggests, this 11.3% ABV American Imperial Stout is the foundation of everyone’s favorite, Sunday Morning Stout, with a twist (and without the barrel aging)… This brew captures everything you’d expect from a traditional molé – coffee, chocolate, heat and smokiness. Foremost is coffee, which is followed by layers of chocolate courtesy of the chocolate malt, cocoa powder and cacao nibs. Finally, a subtle lingering heat and smokiness from our blend of ancho, pasilla, mulato and chipotle peppers, as well as cinnamon, which is gone by the time you’re ready for your next sip."

This hit mid-Michigan last week. Picked up a single. I found it to be quite enjoyable.

Picked up a four pack. I was disappointed that this was not barrel-aged (I just assumed that it would be).

The heat and cinnamon spice blend was really enjoyable but the roasted coffee was just not as strong as SMS.

Drank two and plan to age two.

Personally, I thought it was a great coffee stout, but I didn't pick up ANY pepper heat or flavor, and no cinnamon either. But I've only tried one of four, so far.

Thought it was pretty damn good, but prefer Jackie O's Oro Negro and Stone Xocoveza over this by ALOT.

It's in the 95 loop, but I get your point. Someone else is bound to have it - maybe check that place next door to Trillium?

I enjoyed it. It's not quite BOMB! but I think it's comparable to Xocoveza.

    That's both confusing and annoying.

-- the lack of barrel aging, not your post! --

I had my brother grab me some of this back in MI for me, and I had assumed it was barrel aged like SMS as well. Oh well, it'll still be interesting to see how it stacks up against some similar beers. I've liked Bomb! and Xocoveza, but didn't love them.

I find it interesting that brewers make a "mole" stout that includes cinnamon, chocolate, and peppers" as if "mole" means a sauce with chocolate, cinnamon, etc. Mole is a sauce with nuts, peppers, vegetables, etc that doesn't have to have any chocolate or cinnamon. Its just the popularity of mole negro that leads most to believe that's what mole is.

Weyerbacher has been going downhill lately, with their Imperial Stout. Their 21st Anniversary was a disaster.
