You're doing yourself a disservice by not giving them a chance due to their name and labels.. they makes some really good beers. Not everything is a home run, but I love Insanity, Merry Monks, Blasphemy, Imperial Pumpkin Ale, Fireside Ale, Slam Dunkel, and a few others. Don't judge a book by its cover. I'm glad u acknowledged you're probably missing out though. Try some next time, cheers!

they definitely made a mistake with the labels / overall graphic design, but if you're a serious beer drinker you should be over that by now.

i normally refrain from "you ought to" do this or that on BA, but regarding weyerbacher, they deserve design criticism solely in relation to losing sales from casual customers who don't know much about craft beer. if you've been around, use beer advocate, etc, you should know by now that they're a respected brewery.

pretending that the only resource you have available to you is the name and label is just being stupid.

re: weyerbacher, i love them personally. extra praise for 2012 insanity, which blows last year's out of the water (last year's was also great).

They just recently released their new logo and will be rolling out the new labels soon. Passing over them because of their labels is just plain ridiculous.

The dates can be a bit hard to see, but they print the bottled on and best by dates in black ink on the neck of the bottle. Hold it up to the light at the right angle and you should be able to find it. Bottled on on the first line, best by on the second. They also put the best by dates on the cases as well.

Weyerbacher brews some really good beers, no doubt. I could care less about the labels, for me, it's more of an entertainment factor - I care about what's under the cap.

I also love the Insanity and Double Simcoe but some of their Anniversary brews have been very memorable, especially the Thirteen and Fourteen, probaly two of my most favorite from them...ever.

Is that a Left 4 Dead reference? If so, awesome! If not, I'm confused.

Insanity is phenomenal, was very amazed by this brew. Their lineup is great and they stay under the radar/are easy to find their limited releases.

Double Simcoe and Imperial Pumpkin are awesome... Old Heathen is severely underrated.. Insanity & Heresy are nice barrel aged entries... Their anniversary brews are usually awesome... Riserva is yummy... Merry Monks and Blithering Idiot are good standbys... There variety case is quality... I would argue that Weyerbacher is my favorite PA brewery and along with Voodoo very underrated in the BA community...

I do enjoy their beer very much but best on the planet is a stretch.

Sad thing is, it took so long for them to make a new logo..and the new one isn't much better.
Here's a hint for brewers: people don't like clowns, they're creepy. A jester is basically a jackass clown.
And I tend to associate jesters with ICP and faygo...not quality beer.
I would have just ditched that whole theme. Oh well, maybe next time.

I've been a big fan of Weyerbacher since their Double Simcoe, and the Fireside and Merry Monks got me hooked.

I definitely feel that they add to the truth that Pennsylvania has better breweries than any of the surrounding states. Victory, Troegs, Weyerbacher, I'm going to go ahead and add Lancaster and Erie to that list. After 3 years in Virginia I have yet to find a Virginia brewery to match any one of them. As near as I can tell the same can be said for Maryland.

Ohio has Great Lakes, and not much else. New York, Southern Tier....

Weyerbacher may not be the best on the planet, but they help give ol' PA a good name

Good to mention the anniversary brews too. Twelve, Thirteen, Fourteen (both), Sixteen were all excellent to borderline perfect. Wish they'd bring them back, especially Thirteen & Fourteen. I'm down to my last Thirteen!
