I was very lucky to come into a bottle of Maple Bourbon Mexican Cake from this year's release. Rather than take down that bad mama-jama in one swoop, I think it might be good to get 3-4 other people involved and do some whaling. Ideally I'd only want 4-5 people to keep pours at a respectable size. I'd really like to try BAA, Scoop, etc.. things of that caliber. Anyone looking for a reason to break out their big guns?
Do you have friends who are into craft beer? I'm guessing you do, so I recommend you just open the beer along with other bottles with your buddies and have a good time. "Whale" shares are overrated.
+1 Sometimes you need a few decent/average beers at a share to appreciate the ones which are above the pack. Plus the look on your friends faces and the raving is priceless.
Or you can go to the other end and do nothing but whale shares with your group. We've got 8-10 people we all share with and we all combine our ammo and do trades together so every share is mainly whales. You'll get spoiled real quick though.
I can bring out my big guns! Let's see....I've got some Dragon's Milk(super rare), The Dogfather, So Happens It's Tuesday, etc. Don't be intimidated by my uber-mega-walez, I just like to share good beer. Let me know.
The problem with these kinds of shares is that one man's "whale" is another man's "shelf turd." Especially when you start mixing people who spend most of their free time beer trading and hyping on IG with people who just seek out whatever they can get locally.
Can't wait for that Russian Bread line of hands putting their taster glass out for that 1oz pour of that uber whalez! Followed by those two or three folks who just take a massive boss pour, cause, you know, gotta tick it good. Posting a "whalez wanted 4 share" ad for only 4-5 folks on beertalk seems like the wrong way to go about it. Like the suggestion above said, why not just crack it with friends regardless of what they have instead of trying to leverage it as a "show me yours and I'll show you mine" situation. I get it, it's the best of all worlds, you get to tick 4-5 different beers without having to trade yours, as well as getting to tick it, but it just seems a bit like too little in effort to make a beer share and too much an effort to self serve your own needs.
Considering the minor interest (but general love of threadshitting) I'll probably have the mods lock this one down. I hear a couple reasonable gripes but I don't know why I am surprised, the majority of the community is un-pleasable these days. I have a small group of friends/family who enjoy beer but wouldn't really appreciate the difference between say something like Maple BA Cake and something like Black Tuesday. It made more sense to me to attempt to share it with folks who would... my mistake. Additionally I am the only one that trades so I am the sole provider of anything not readily available every time we hang out. I figured it was a chance to try several things without jumping through hoops of trading. In this scenario I was lucky to get bottles at cost and figured it was a good opportunity to taste some tough to acquire beers without dealing with secondary market prices (if you think you can trade for BAA without bending over twice you don't follow any of the trade communities).
Sorry your thread got...well...ruined by a few folks. It's a great idea to share beers with others and to try beers that are on the higher end of the spectrum no matter what way you spin it. Not all my friends have a beer cellar, nor do they even no what BAA is...people always have to chime in to make themselves feel good.
