So, I have been thinking lately (Yes..... I do that on occasion). I think it would be really cool if Beeradvocate set up a way for people to review home brews. Maybe have a special section for them and list a top 50 as well. You could add them in to the regular beer reviews, but that should come later after it has gained some ground so it does not get lost.
I mean if you think about it breweries have restrictions on how they make beer because they have to worry about profit. Restrictions don't enable you to do certain things that in turn could make your beer better. Home brewers do not have this. They can by small quantities of any ingredient they want, brew for as long as they want, spend as much money on something they want, do anything they want to make the best possible.
Who knows.... maybe out of this there could be undiscovered talent that makes better beer available. Maybe some people could get recognition and start their own brewery. Maybe people will even want to be trading just to get someone's "rare and amazing home brew". I do not brew yet myself, but I know there are those people out there that could "Wow" others with their product.
As you can see this Idea gets me pretty excited. What do you guys think?

Other than trading homebrew with other homebrewers, how would the folks who rate the homebrew get the homebrew?

The idea is great in concept but much harder to apply. As Dave mentions, unless the homebrewer is trading his beer is not leaving a rather small area. Reviews would be written primarily by friends, this is not always the most objective group. If you were too include a top 50 section there is even more incentive for biased reviews. Ultimately, the idea is cool but does not benefit the community as a whole.

I like the idea that a home brewer could get an actual review posted on his beer. I would think that as long as it was included in a trade then it could be reviewed. It wouldn't be just to friends that way and it would give the the home brewers a chance to try their product with a lot of people and really get real feedback. Of course you would have to enter into the database and maybe that could be a more relaxed process. Name of the member, the beer style and name of the beer if any, and when & where it was bottled? It would be for fun mostly.

But even reviews from trades could be biased if you want to trade with that person again. I'm seeing more of an anonymous BIF kind of thing. But that would probably be really impractical.

You can do this on Untappd. And, they have an iPhone app. Brilliant!

Every batch I make only has about two cases. They are automatically whales.

I review a lot of homebrew. It is done at competitions, where the beer is judged and a score assigned.

I think this is more suited in home brewing sites. Have them set up a place to review.

Could put them on peoples profile pages under beers. People would have hads, wants, gots, and homebrews. Would be cool to see other users try them and rate them.

Nope, not a good idea, for BA. Lots of reasons why. But basically, this is a job for Untappd.
