Just bought a really fresh Alesmith IPA from Trader Joes dated 5/2. I get this taste from certain ipas occasionally. I am tasting lots of citrus notes and a dusty flavor. I am curious about the dustiness. It's not off putting by any means, just curious what it is.

    Cheers

Not to be an asshole, but did you wash your glassware properly before using it?

Sorry, you are an asshole! Just kidding, yes perfectly clean and rinced before the pour. Forgot to mention that.

Never had a dustiness taste to this fresh. Pure awesomeness every time.

Sometimes Simcoe hops will give me an aspirin-like quality, maybe that's what you are picking up.

I have gotten this a couple of time in brews with heavy simcoe. I have actually gotten it with the alesmith ipa as well.

What do you mean by dusty? earthy like dirt, or chalky like ummmm...chalk?

It's the flavor of an average IPA :grinning:

A bit of a joke there, but seriously I never got the hype of Alesmith IPA, I think it's an average beer so sorry, I can't help.

Can you provide a better description than tastes like dust?

Is it similar to Sculpin? If so, I know the taste you are describing, but am not sure what causes it.

Sculpin tastes like dust because the bottles are covered in it. BAAAAAAAAZIING!!!!!
