I know they’re not chocolate chips used for cookies, but what are they?

Can I substitute bittersweet or semisweet chocolate? Like a chunk of Belgian chocolate?
    Thanks

They are crushed cacao beans, and not the same thing as finished chocolate. i.e. cacao is just one ingredient in chocolate. The closest substitute would probably be cocoa powder.

Thanks. My grocery store doesn’t carry nibs, so wanted to ask
