On their website on the Beers tab under Classic Ales they list:

    Ten Hills Pale Ale
    Oktoberfest
    Honker's Ale
    India Pale Ale
    Nut Brown Ale
    Sixth Day

under 'Blasts from the past' they list:

    Summertime
    Mild Winter
    Harvest Ale

I know Mild Winter has been nowhere to be seen but do they not plan to bring Summertime or Harvest Ale back? If so, I think this is a strategic misstep as these are both excellent beers in styles not done by other 'larger' craft breweries (Kolsch, Extra Special Bitter) and that would be sad. I can see the rationale behind Mild Winter being discontinued as they already offer two Brown Ales; (Nut Brown and Sixth Day) in their lineup and even though Mild Winter is an excellent beer and is technically a 'Dark Mild' it is too close to the other two to tie up so much production capacity. Ten Hills Pale Ale is a fine APA but the last thing we need is another APA when their are so many good ones out their already. I hope this is not a harbinger of things to come where Goose Island re-tools their lineup in order to grab market share among the most popular styles as this would signal a change from a Brewery that charted their own course offering styles not as widely brewed (English Pale Ale, English IPA, Brown Ale plus the Belgians) to one that plans to dominate the market.

    I am anxious.

That blasts from the pasta list is depressing. I really enjoyed Harvest and Mild Winter; Summertime was a solid summer offering - a craft beer I would gladly pay $12 for a 12 pack

I enjoyed 10 Hills but agree with your statement; that's a crowded market right now.

EDIT: What @zid said. Sounds like they're renaming things.

Ten Hills Pale Ale I just picked up and its not bad.
    Oktoberfest I never had.
Honker's Ale is alright but havent had it in ages.
India Pale Ale Never had it fresh so I dont know how good it is.
Nut Brown Ale really liked that one.
    Sixth Day never had it.

I know I had Summertime and Harvest Ale and they were ok I guess.

    Makes you go, Hmmm.

Wonder why Fleur and the Oatmeal Stout aren't in this category, but relegated to some separate spot on the page bottom?

I would really only consider the Honkers and IPA to be their "core brand' since they are brewed all year around. I am bummed over the discontinuing of Mild Winter, Summertime and Christmas Ale, I really enjoyed those beers. I like the Ten Hills and am interested in seeing the new rotating ones. They also have one out called The Illinois. Its characterized as a DIPA, but I had it on draft the other night and it was certainly not that. It seemed more like a Amber ale. Very tasty either way. Hopefully they keep up the good work since they're changing so many beers.

I think Sophie should be year round! There isn't much like it, and I get sad when I cant find it on tap.:flushed:

Sofie and Matilda are year round. Pere Jacques and Pepe Nero will be "limited 1 and 2" in terms of the Vintage Ales, and no longer available year round. I'd like to see Nero go away entirely, replaced by a Triple, which ironically is their next beer in the series that features The Illinois, which is coming soon. It will be called "The Ogden" and it is realllly good.

why isn't 312 mentioned on this list? isn't that one year-round?

also I'm going to miss Harvest Ale, Summertime and Mild Winter... I thought those were their best beers outside of the BCs

If you miss the GI Oatmeal stout, go buy Trader Joe's Stockyard Oatmeal Stout. I was informed that GI brewed it for them. It's crazy good!

Sophie goes away "On Tap" locally by me. That's funny to find out that it's a Year Round brew.

wow, I'm pissed that Summertime is gone. That was my favorite cheap summer seasonal, and in my opinion the only seasonal where Goose Island was beating out Sam Adams and Sierra Nevada.

Are you sure? This is from Goose Islands webite and if the above is true it would imply that every seasonal would use Hops from Ten Hills.

"Ten Hills traces its story to Elk Mountain Farms in Idaho, famous for growing hops of exceptional quality and character. With hops from the "first ten hills" grown for Goose Island at Elk Mountain, we crafted a pale ale that delivers both a herbal and citrus hop character. We hope you'll find the intriguing balance of flavors in this beer to be truly unparalleled."

And where is Christmas Ale? This makes no sense. Hopefully GooseIslandBill comes on and explains this

Goose Island really isn't that great aside from BCBS... Their IPA is decent but everything else is pretty average

Sofie has been year-round since 2010.

I think Goose's "core lineup" would be considered 312, IPA and possibly Honkers (their former flagship), with Sofie and Matilda comprising a smaller "Core Belgian Lineup" category.

Sixth Day = Christmas Ale. They just changed the name.

I was honestly surprised they didn't cancel Pepe Nero last year. I could find January 2012 bottles of Pepe Nero as recently as four months ago. The stuff just doesn't sell.

And if they want to increase sales of Pere Jacques, making it a once-a-year release isn't necessary. The reason it sold quicker pre-2009 wasn't because it was rarer, it was because it tasted better. They admitted they changed the recipe when they made it year-round. The old one was better (and a wee bit truer to style too). It was also a bit stronger, so I'm pretty damn sure it would sell better on that basis alone.

Pere Jacques is one of my favorite beers. I bought the last 4pk (2011 vintage) at Beers of the World recently. The 2012 which I only ever saw in bombers had disappeared a few months ago. I hope the next crop arrives soon. If it doesn't I'll be drinking more Unibroue as their Trois Pistoles and Maudite are World Class Beers, IMO.
