I went into my local bottle shop to pickup some Captains Daughter and noticed a nice new display with what must have been 6 different kinds of beer from Sixpoint.

I've never really tried their beer before so I'm looking for advise on which I should try first. Also if there are any that are harder to get than others so I can make those a priority.

    Thanks

They're strong everywhere. You'll get differing opinions depending on style preferences. Try them out!

I just tried Resin for the first time only because I saw a ton of BAs posting pics of it on the daily WBAYDN thread. I was confused at first when I went to the store to pick up a sixer as I saw the "best by" date and it was July 2014...??
Regardless, I picked it up and was not disappointed.

Hi-Res & Beast Mode are currently out and will disappear soon. I do not think you'll be disappointed with any. Resin is a great go-to DIPA.

    Depends on what you like....

If you like pilsners....try The Crisp
    IPA's......try Bengali
pale ale / cream ales....try Sweet Action
    DIPA's.....try Resin

Hi Res (triple IPA) and Beast Mode porter are just out this week - very delicious

You can look up the breweries beers here.....and see what sort of ratings the beers have that you are interested in trying.....

Huh? If that date is for real, then you bought some really old beer, BM @Sixpoint and he'll investigate. Fresh Resin is da bomb!

All their beers are very good, if you see Hi-Res, definitely pick it up, that one is fantastic and it's only out for short period of time. Their everyday stuff too is really good, Bengali, Sweet Action and The Crisp. I'm waiting to see Beast Mode as that one is brand new and I have not seen it yet.

Should have mentioned, Hi Res and Beast Mode are "seasonal" and will not be around very long...

The first 4 beers I mentioned above are "regulars", and should always be around

Hi-Res is amazing, if you can find it. Looks like I probably won't find any this year, but I had it last year and it was awesome.

I responded to you via beermail, but this is for the entire thread:

apologies for the confusion on the prior code dating, it was a remnant of an antiquated method we used. The packaging said BBJULY1415 and some confused that to mean it expired July 2014. However, it means that the beer is best before July 14, 2015.

We have since updated our format to avoid this confusion in the future. thanks

You can't go wrong on any Sixpoint beer. Just select the style(s) that most appeal to you.

Sweet Action is classified as a Cream Ale on BA but that beer does not taste like any Cream Ale that I have ever had (e.g., Genny Cream Ale). That beer is worth purchasing simply so you can try something that is different and extremely drinkable. Ultimate enjoyment of Sweet Action comes from drinking it from a can shaped glass:

A quick note about Beast Mode, as some people on here are apparently not familiar with Sixpoint or how Sixpoint has been brewing since 2004:

    1) We don't care about style guidelines - never have; never will. We don't brew to "perfect" a style that has been defined by the BJCP or GABF or any other governing body that dictates what a beer should taste like. We simply take raw materials and formulate a beer according to our tastes, and relate those innovations to our customers through narrative.

    2) BEAST MODE is not intended or designed to be an English Porter, or a Robust Porter, or an American Porter, or a Baltic Porter, or any other defined porter style. Its meant to be (and is) a 2015 next-generation American Craft Porter. Its part brown ale, part porter, part stout, and part IPA.

    3) After doing many formulations, we settled in on this recipe because it had all of the dryness/roastiness of a good porter, without becoming a maple syrup sugar bomb. If you want a sugar/caramel bomb, look somewhere else.

    4) If you want a dark beer in the colder, winter months that has all of the glorious hop character of a good IPA, with the nuttiness of a nice hoppy brown ale, and just enough of that burnt/roastiness of a stout and porter, then this is your beer.

Let your taste buds guide you. Don't let others tell you what beer should taste like.

    “next-generation American Craft Porter”

Woo-Hoo! A new beer style!! A bit too long though; maybe NG American Craft Porter is better?

I am guessing that it’s too late for NG American Craft Porter to make it into the BJCP style guideline update (2014) but I will remind Gordon Strong to incorporate this into the next update (in 2020?).

Cheers to the NG American Craft Porter beer style!
