I don't drink a lot but somehow I had 3 Hi-Res the other night. I don't remember the 3rd one but the first two were great.

    Yes you will.

And do you mean this by not being condescending? If so, I think we have varying definitions of the term condescending, Sixpoint.

    Sir,

With all due respect, your representation of my conversation with LJ on Untappd is a selective cut-and-paste of our responses that better frames your argument. Everyone knows that if I recorded a conversation with you, and then cleverly edited certain soundbites out of it I could make you look like a hero - or a villain - or an indifferent bystander simply by the nature of the editing. "News" stations across the world have been doing that trick for years to sway public opinion.

Perhaps a more honest approach here would be to paste the entire conversation (as below), which clearly does not show us condescending this man, but rather us being curious about what, specifically, he did not like in all of our beers that would cause him to say "Sixpoint sucks again." This automatically implies that our brewery continually or repeatedly sucks, and he has had continued negative experiences with us, so we responded, "sucks again? what is the issue?"

He then followed up with, "As in all of your beers suck, Sixpoint."

Since we were looking for more detailed feedback (as in feedback that we could take into account to perhaps improve our beers), we said in response, "judging by that response you are not interested in offering any detailed or intelligent feedback."

That apparently struck a nerve with him, because he decided to respond, "Did you not read past my point about you sucking again? Tastes like a shitty brown that's thin with a phenolic finish. Go to www.rif.org"

It is important that he modified what he originally wrote, which said "Tastes like a slightly hoppy brown ale with a phenolic finish." That was transformed to, "Tastes like a shitty brown that's thin with a phenolic finish." The ad hominem attack was thrown in there as well. So in some sense it was a bit more detailed, and in another sense, it became even more vague.

But the conversation continues, ends up taking a more enlightened and positive tone, and LJ upon our first encounter seems like a legit beer dude, so I definitely look forward to meeting up with him and introducing him to the rest of the Sixpoint staff and brewers. I'm sure conversation will flow much nicer after a few Beast Modes! :-) Fwiw he has not contacted me yet - but I'm confident he will.

Oh, and the offer still stands for you as well.

Last, regarding your definition of condescension vs. ours - I think we both agree what it is. The root of the word is Latin, with con meaning "with" and descendere meaning "to descend" which is pretty congruent with the denotation of the word, which basically means to willingly sink down to the level of others.

We believe in the exact opposite approach with our customers, one of "conascension" which is a word that we made up, but is the converse of the Latin word "condescension" - meaning we "rise up" together. CON + ASCENDERE = RISE UP TOGETHER

One way to "rise up" together is to maintain a constant, constructive dialog on how we can both improve in order to ascend to new heights. And yes, I did say "we can both improve" because any good relationship is a two-way street. In this sense, its not just the business that has room improvement - the customers always have room for improvement as well. This may sound outrageous to some and be at odds with the age-old (and in our opinion, antiquated) motto "the customer is always right" but it is much closer to the absolute truth.

Any reasonable person knows that no person is always right, we are all imperfect and prone to making mistakes. What defines a person more is how they respond to their mistakes - because that is a much more accurate gauge of their character. This sentiment is echoed in such books as Setting the Table by Danny Meyer, where he talks about the approach of "enlightened hospitality." Customers are not always right - they are often wrong. But there is no problem with being wrong - as we are all imperfect. However, no one has the right to be abusive - businesses or customers - even if they think they are "right" during the process.

Beast mode is pretty darn good. Iam trying it now. I agree it is not a porter BUT it does have a very pleasant and surprising hops presence without much bitter. I really like it. I still need to get some of the new recipe hi res.

As @JackHorzempa would say - "Cheers to Sixpoint!"

I take it back. Maybe it is a porter. Not much chocolate to my palate. I think the hops lighten this drink to the palate so that you don't notice the smooth and toasty malts until your realize it's richer than you first thought. It's even nutty. So I think it has a distinct porter mouthfeel to it after it warms.

Local beer shop has a ton a sixpoint on the shelves (three or four different styles)... When I stop back in later this week I may see if I can pick up a few singles to try.

Maria, isn't it interesting how a beer can 'evolve' from the first sip to the last sip? The combination of warming, CO2 coming out of solution, etc. (what I refer to as the 'opening up' process) can indeed sometimes do some 'magical things'.

    Cheers!

I agree with the general consensus of this thread--you really can't go wrong with anything from Sixpoint. That being said my top 3 probably goes:

    1. Hi-Res...this beer is pretty much the definition of "hop juice", my brother and I bought 2 cases of it this year and one is already gone.
    2. Beast Mode...awesome interpretation of a porter. So good that Pete Carroll would have handed it the ball on the 1 yard line
    3. Bengali...tried this about a year ago and wasn't too crazy about it. I received a sixer of it for my birthday in October and couldn't believe it was the same beer. It's been a regular in my fridge since.

Sensai Harvest and Global Warmer were both great brews..regret not picking up more of them while I could. My brother and I have been talking about a trip to the brewery for a while now...definitely going to make it happen this year.

nice @utopiajane ! go by taste, not by taxonomy!

@Beejis60 contacted me, he was very polite in a personal message. We are going to set up a tasting. All good!

Not everyone is going to like our beers, but that shouldn't be our goal anyways...

Exactly. No one can really define what a porter is anyways...and besides, 100 years ago "American Porter" as we know it today did not even exist. And 100 years from now, it will be different than what it is right now. That's when people rate beers in a style category, they always rate it vs. what they already had instead of what they have yet to taste ;-)

it alright now though, @Beejis60 reached out by personal email, and I understood where he was coming from, and we're going to set up a tasting. cheers

Yes, I noticed this the other night myself at an event - it is best around 45-50F imho

    check in with Adam! :-)

one note about buying singles - always check the code dates. I've noticed at some stores they take "damaged boxes" and use those for single sales. You don't always get good product rotation...so always check the bottom of the can.

did you try the BA Old Redhooker?

reach out to us via email first - we want to make sure when we are ready to accommodate that you have are recognized as a friend of the brewery

interesting - reminds us of the Hi-Res / 3Beans combo folks were doing last year...
