I second this duo for exactly the same reasons. And I'm from Michigan as well!!

    It's tough but:

    Berkshire
    Founders

    Honorable mention/basically a tie:

    Newburyport
    Tröegs
    Sierra Nevada

  3. dripa8

    dripa8 Zealot (647) Sep 19, 2014 Kansas

Tough question to narrow to two, but for price/value/quality I could probably go with only lagunitas and sierra Nevada for the rest of my days without missing out on much.except bcbs!

    At the moment:

Hill Farmstead - I think I've only had one beer from them that I didn't love
Cigar City - Great regular production selection and their Barrel Aged beers are out of this world

Stone because Stone IPA got me into craft beer in 2003 and they make a ton of great brews.
Ballast Point because they make my favorite every day beer, Sculpin.

    New Glarus and Founders

Pipe Works, Spiteful, Lunar, BuckleDown, and Revolution are right behind those two

  8. Domingo

    Mahr's and New Glarus.
There are lots of others I really enjoy, but I like everything from those two and they brew a lot of different beers.

Not my two fav's but I thought I would instead mention two very good ones close to you for future visits: Just up the road a spell in Buellton is Figueroa Mountain, and a bit farther on in Paso Robles is Firestone Walker. While everyone else is going sideways and getting bottle shocked over wines, you can sneak in and have some great brews.

I just want to say FW, HF, SARA, and Cellarmaker. I can't narrow it down any further and all of those contribute equally to my love for beer.

    Founders and Revolution.

Founders has been my favorite brewery for quite a while. Revolution probably just passed Bell's and Three Floyds for me with Unsessionable. Holy crap is that a great IIPA, but all of the Heros are fantastic, as are Double Fist and Deth's Tar. I can't wait to try their Gravedigger Billy barrel aged Wee Heavy that I have in my fridge.

Brasserie Dupont because they make my favorite beer and Jester King because they have yet to make one I didn't love.

Victory - because I'm from NJ, and even though I now live in Beervana, they never ceased to amaze me with their ability to make consistently good, and often times great, beers across a variety of styles that were always pretty easy to obtain.

Barley Browns - a brewery I didn't even know existed 6 months ago. These guys make several IPAs that I would hold up against any of the most hyped hoppy beers in the country. On top of that, the owner once picked up my tab after over hearing me order one of his brews at a bottle shop here in Portland. I don't know if most brewers would do the same, but it was an awesome gesture regardless and one that completely sold me on a brewery that I was starting to love anyway.
