I'd definitely agree on Bent Paddle, have yet to be overly impressed by anything from Grand Teton (when in the area I'll opt for most anything from Snake River Brewing before them), and will lookup FBC on my next trip back to the ranch. That said, Melvin is anything but underrated. They've medaled repeatedly and most like their product (though their HR practices and social media have HUGE room for improvement).

Now that I think about it, I'd add the fore mentioned Snake River Brewing as underrated.

Sort of a stretch, but I'll go with New Glarus. I've never had a beer from them that was a let down. They just nail German, Belgium and (non-hazy) American styles all the time. I hope they never make a hazy beer.

Alrighty then. I guess I should have saved Melvin for "most hated" brewer.

Man if you can find a lost coast beer that holds a candle to the worst eel river is putting out I would be excited to try it. Lost Coast has to be the worst brewery in Cali.
As for Eel river, they make a good porter, a pleasant enough blonde, some great stouts and barleywines and lately they've been trying out some newer IPA styles that are passable. What have you had from them?

I second Great Lakes. Elliot Ness is one of my favorite beers ever.

In terms of other “overlooked” breweries, Devil’s Backbone in VA makes way more than just the Vienna Lager and 3 Stars from Washington, D.C. does great work. Of course there are many amazing local breweries throughout the whole area but as someone pointed out, “underrated” and “unknown” are two different beasts.
