yup. I read a bunch of internet crap and I still don't know what it is.

You consider Ron P.'s research "internet crap"? It is perhaps some of the most important beer research currently being produced by anyone, anywhere in the world. I'm sorry you got offended so deeply by this thread and some of the contributions (and even apologized personally if I offended you), but now you're just sounding petty and silly.

You might want to chat with @cavedave about maybe creating a thread in the home brewing forum where a few folks interested in trying to homebrew an AK could chat and share their ideas, techniques and thoughts about the results.

nope. I didn't read ron's reasearch. sorry to not be specific. I read a really long article by a guy named marty that apparently is inaccurate according to ron and marty. I also read most of the links posted in this thread. I'm also not meaning to demean any of the stuff I read by calling it "crap". Just speaking openly and thoughtlessly about my fruitless efforts to figure out with the internet what an AK is. I've gotten so used to finding all the information I need with a few clicks that I might get frustrated too easily when things are cloudy

I really need to be more careful with my language on here. I keep making the mistake of thinking barroom language is acceptable. I will learn....

    slowly.

Delicious AK I had today. Renewed my interest in the style. Might have saved my life.

    A pretty picture.

Would you mind sharing what exactly that beer is?

    Cheers!

I don't mean this disrespectfully, but you might not be able to find a consensus of opinion on what a stout, porter, IPA, APA, quad, or kolsch are with a "few clicks" either.

    Very helpful.

As might be apparent from my prior post, I've not delved anywhere near these historical discussions of beer in the past, and haven't the slightest idea about them. So, after your post, I took a quick dip on Ron's blog, see he's doing the good work.

Still, I don't think his OP, or his response were nearly as helpful as your quick summary.

Sounds a bit like Commercial Suicide, by Jester King, which I had earlier this year. Didn't move me, but I could tell it was carefully designed and brewed.

I prefer the aesthetics of the 74 over the 47

While this has been a very strange thread, I learned about a new style that I should delve into, right after I figure out bitters.

No disrespect intended here either, simply a reminder that there is a difference between not finding a consensus when there are multiple sources of information and not finding a concensus when there is virtually nothing to be found. And in the first case there are literally hundreds of commercial examples easily available that enable one to have direct experience while in the second case there are virtually no commercial examples easily available that enable one to have direct experience.

I could be wrong but I think the joke is session ipa (pa or bitter) of modern times, has been done. That was the whole point.
I know the IPA crowd may get upset by it, but its nothing new, like 99% of anything in beer, its all been done.
Sometimes 100's of years ago or MORE. Just my 2cents to sum things up.

According to the McMullen website: “Records suggest that AK was first produced in 1832 and this former ‘mild’ remains in circulation today.”

    Cheers!

It is possible that their own records are wrong...

I don't see an emoticon in your statement so I am uncertain whether you are joking or not.

Taking away any previous sentiments I had towards mr. pattinson, you have stated three times now in this thread that it was brewed in 1832/1833 and Ron has to yet to address that directly. I am curious why. He feels it was perhaps some 50 years later, but he hasn't actually countered with a reason as to why the discrepency between his guess, and the brewers own records. My take is that there are records of this somewhere, but perhaps they are wrong? But who is wrong?
