Good morning BA, digging into the cellar today:

3 years old as of tomorrow. Enormous chocolate, coffee, caramel, vanilla, toffee, molasses, bourbon, oak, raisin, plum, cherry, and date. Good amount of bourbon/oak spiciness balances the residual sweetness absoluitely perfectly. Insane balance between the malt, dark fruits, and bourbon barrel flavors. Enourmous silky and slick feel. Very smooth sipper for 15%. Absolutely beautiful stuff all around! Pure euphoria. Glad I have a few more.

Last 2013 I have, unless there is something hiding somewhere. Huge raisin, prune, fig, date, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, molasses, vanilla, toasted oak, bourbon, and light coconut. Fantastic flavor balance, everything is nearly perfectly integrated right now as far as barrel, malt, and dark fruit notes. Creamy/silky finish. Very smooth, lightly warming alcohol. Incredible!

This is a limited edition Jolly Pumpkin made for Plum Market’s 5th anniversary in 2012(local grocer, similar to Whole Foods or whatever). I bought 3, drank and reviewed one in Dec 2013. Bottled in March 2012. Surprisingly still not a gusher, usually 3 years gives me gushers with Jolly Pumpkin. Flavors of tart green apple, plum, lemon, pear, light caramel, toasted oak, light roast, hay, straw, grass, pepper, musty funk, and light vinegar/leather. Balanced tart/spicy finish against a moderate amount of darker/bready malt notes. Smooth and crisp finish with a touch of lingering acidity. A slight improvement over the last review. Still pretty tame as far as Jolly Pumpkin beers go, but has a good mix of funk, fruit, and malt flavors with great balance. Also, this one is only 4.5% like most of their Bam beers. Very drinkable.

Good morning! Just past midnight here, and finishing the evening with a Cooper's Best Extra Stout. Strong burnt grain and long lasting bitter linger. Smooth dry mouthfeel. A classic from Australia.

Went to the Auckland Museum today. Saw an interesting show with history discussed, then singing and dancing by Mauri (native people) of NZ:

Cool museum with many Mauri artifacts:

Starting off this beautiful fall morning with a wee dram of grapefruit juice. (What? I grabbed the wrong bottle? Guess I'll have to me more careful next time!)

2102 seems to have been a banner year for BCBS. I did a 3-year vertical this past winter and it was my fave- so well-woven and balanced, and shows no sign of slowing down.

I'm off to the NY Renaissance Faire myself, so I'll try to post back with whatever they are serving there these days. It used to be Genesee 12-Horse, but things may have changed a bit in the interim . Have a great Saturday, everybody!
