This is supposed to be a DIPA, but....this is a real malt/caramel bomb. I actually like it a lot but this is more like a hoppy brown ale. Almost an old ale? Who knows, but it's making cleaning the basement a little more pleasant and a nice reward for all the push ups, pull ups, sprints and running I did earlier. Cheers all

A little something on the lighter refreshing side after rising early for some photos and a run around Lake Estes. Taking it all in one last time before heading east soon. Have a great day all......

    A celebratory brew

Got my little car finally back in the game - had hit a nasty chuckhole a while back and dented the crap out of the front tire / rim, so the air was leaking.....ordered new rim from one online auto parts place, then they cancelled my order 3 days later, saying it was "out of stock indefinitely" / then re-ordered from yet another online place, and the same thing happened! Jeez! Finally found a used one at a local auto recycler / scrap yard and am now back in business! Couple that with getting a new pressure / water tank for my well Tuesday (to the tune of $520!!), and I need something to celebrate! Running water and running car...yea!

    This one works!

Leaves are falling, rain is spitting, the air is crisp. I'm not feeling funky but this beer is.

Appearance : Pours a really neat looking light colored body from the bottle, which forms into a slightly darker yet perfectly pumpkin orange. The body has 90% opacity. The head doesn't last long but pours at 2 fingers in the tulip glass.

Smell : Lots of pumpkin and gourd, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, clove. A total cornucopia of fall baked/spiced aromas. It's very spiced and very delicious smelling.

Taste : Wonderful marriage! This beer has a lovely sour quality to it, with all of the spices and magic of a pumpkin beer. The sour is out front with tons of Brettanomyces yeast, and the spices come shortly after with punches of nutmeg, allspice, and clove. Slight cinnamon dusting and pumpkin filling on the finish.

Feel : Light bodied, very tart, very zingy, very sharp in carbonation. A slight smoothness accompanies this, however, to accommodate the pumpkin and spice layers. It ends crisp and light, fairly unremarkable, and that's okay.

Overall : This will be a new yearly Pumpkin beer for me. It takes a lot for me to "warm up" to a Pumpkin beer where I'd gladly buy it in bulk. This is one of those such beers. It's funky, it's different, it's jazz! I love it. Just try it if you're a fan of fall and sours at all.

Starting today with British West Indies Trading Company's Islander Ginger Beer. It's made from cane sugar, ginger, citrus and spices - 5.0% ABV. No malt, so I suppose it's technically not a beer, so I didn't add it to the database. If you're looking for something gluten free, like ginger and a balancing sweetness, give this a try - I would rate it a 4. Despite the fancy corporate name, a close look at the bottle shows it's brewed in Greenville, SC by Thomas Creek.
