Good morning BAs and Happy Halloween!
Hope everyone has a great costume and has success trick or treating with their kids.
My wife and I went to York River Landing on Thursday for their Smuttynose tap takeover. 30 Smuttynose beers! I had some great ones, most notably a '09 barleywine. It was a costume party and, besides having great beers, we won first place for our rendition of Carol and Daryl of Walking Dead fame.
This morning I am contemplating the day ahead while I have my coffee and breakfast.
    Cheers![IMG]

Happy Halloween everyone! Today's beer is in anticipation of New Beer Sunday and is from the Genesee Brewhouse and it is their Salted Caramel Chocolate Porter. Now the porter is a really good beer with which to observe the changes that happen in beer as it warms. I suggest serving them at cellar not refrigerator temperature and I hope my review will tell you why. It's best to sip it and let it warm even more.

Pours dark brown and while it does appear to be a bit muddy at first as you start to drink and look straight down into the glass you can see that it's pretty clear. Thin tan head that fell fast and not too much lacing.

Right out of the refrigerator I smell caramel, sugar, butterscotch and a scent like cheap candy corn. Twiggy woody hops and sweet chocolate. In the tasting straight from the fridge it is sugary, sweet, not complex and tastes a lot like butterscotch. The hop herbal seems to clash with the rest of the beer and the finish is cloying.

After it reaches cellar temp. Nose is earthy roasted malt, caramel and bitter chocolate. The hops stayed the same. Woody, twiggy and a touch of herbal. A lovely and light vanilla. Malt is very full on the nose . This beer does actually smell like a hand wrapped chocolate caramel and it was made in collaboration with Hedonist Artisan Chocolates in Rochester NY.

After it warms to cellar temperature the taste is luscious and full. Strong caramel that is not too stiff or heavy. Roasty malt a touch of burnt sugar. No alcohol on the palate. Bitter chocolate wrapped around a salted caramel. I have no earthly clue how they got it to taste like that but it does. A deceptively light mouthfeel as though this piece of chocolate candy has melted on your tongue but with a tickle from bubbles it is not heavy at all in the swallow. That woody herbal hop is integral to the taste and only by comparing how it stood out at first and now seems to have blended in will you notice what a good choice of hop it was for this beer. Slight bitterness as it accumulates on the palate with each sip to reveal all that silken and smooth flavor. There is a slight moment of residual sugar in the finish but that is far from what it was ice cold.

This is my first offering from the Genesee Brewhouse Collection and it's everything people have said it is. Excellent!

Cheers to the insomniacs, the diehards, dirty stayups and the morning people!

wow. This so far is probably my second favorite Canadian IPA after Castors Yakima IPA.

Appearance- Poured into a snifter from a 473 ml Can. Love this can XD... Pours a clear amber with 2 fingers head that fades in a couple mins. Carbonation looks kinda lively.

Aroma - HOPS, floral hops, citrus hops, Bready, Cracker, Caramel.

Taste - Lemon , Grapefruit, orange peel, flowers, white bread, caramel.

Feel - medium body, Creamy carbonation, Bitter on the front and finish, lasts on the finish.

Overall - This is a fantastic IPA, The 80 ibu is well masked by the balance of sweetness to the hops. The entire beer blends really well together. Definitely give this a try if you get a chance.

Good morning and Happy Halloween. Wife decorated the porch for Halloween but it wasn't complete. Drinking Uinta Jack B Nimble Imperial Pumpkin. If I'm not mistaken this is a blend of Uintas Labyrinth and their Oak Jacked Imperial Pumpkin. It's good not great, a little rough around the edges and with a few more months to age it might round out the flavors but if I wait 2 months I'll be drinking a Pumpkin beer for Christmas and I'm not doing that.

Cheers BA's and have a safe Halloween. May you all load up on beer and candy.

    Weird concept.

    Happy Halloween BA!

My go-to milk stout. Big robust flavors of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, cream, and light vanilla; with some balanced earthy/herbal hops and light-moderate herbal/roasted bittersweet finish; with a nice creamy/silky mouthfeel. Always delicious!

This is just as incredible as I remember last year. Tastes of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, lime, peach, pineapple, mango, berry, pepper, and pine; with some light caramel/bready malt and herbal/floral/grassy hop earthiness. Good sized pine/citrus rind bitter finish; with a nice sticky, resinous, and dry finish. I love Mosaic hops. This is definitely one of the top contenders for harvest ales, but also seems to be easier to find than some others.

One of my main go-to pumpkin ales this year. Big robust flavors of pumpkin, brown sugar, toast, brown bread, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, caramel, and herbal spice earthiness; with some raisiny dark fruit notes in the back. Balanced herbal spicy bitterness against the malt sweetness. Definitely my favorite as far as darker/sweeter/malty Pumpkin ales go. Lots of complexity going on.

2013 Old Guardian. Tasting fantastic! Huge caramel, toffee, brown sugar, and toasted bread maltiness; with balanced candied citrus, pineapple, raisin, cherry, plum, pine, and herbal/floral/grassy hop earthiness. Nice moderate sticky/piney bitter finish; with a great balance of sweetness and bitterness after the finish. This is definitely more mellowed out on bitterness than I recall the 2012 I had last year. I am pretty sure they changed the hopping around for this batch, but I could be wrong. Definitely tasting outstanding though, regardless.
