Starting early with biscuits and gravy. Honey's homemade biscuits, Wright's Hickory Smoked Barrel Aged Bourbon Bacon and my gravy.

Proud new father of a cute baby girl, just home from the hospital. Thought this beer was a fitting choice to celebrate.

These two beers were from yesterday at Holy Mountain Brewing in Seattle. Both were incredible. The first is the Five of Swords IPA and the second is the Shadowlifter stout.

Mornin' BA's! A bit after 10 here in almost-sunny & brisk NOVA. Breaking in some new glass with this right here:

Guess I missed my chance to actually crack one open on Sunday morning :grimacing::wink:
It seems like for every fraction of a degree that this brew warms, the depth of flavor multiplies exponentially

    Review #865 Perrin Black Goat

People in the Detroit Area Craft Beer Enthusiasts group on Facebook seem to really love this stuff but I just think it's ... good.

$10.99 bomber. I don't see a date on the bottle, but no worries given the style.

Black Goat pours a crystal clear ruby black -- a lot like a porter would. Half finger of a soapy head. Quite a lot of lager-ness: quite a bit of bready and biscuity qualities coming out of the glass, despite this being a black lager. There's also a fair amount of dark fruits along with the bourbon qualities. Not a particularly strong bourbon character, but it's there. The taste is initially sweet, dark fruits. Some of the bourbon and vanilla come in midway through before finishing with a semi-dry oak flavor. The bourbon aroma seems a little more "there" than it does in the taste. The body is medium-low, but it sort of gets a little creamy as it sits on the tongue. The carbonation is fairly high, which makes sense given that it's a lager. Really though, the feel's a bummer because this drinks a little too thin for an 8%.

Given the price of under 50 cents an ounce, it's definitely worth a try, but I'm personally not loving it or regretting I only bought a bottle. There's not a ton of depth, and after several sips, the bourbon/oak/vanilla combo becomes very nearly unnoticeable.

    3.85/5 (-3.8% rDev)

Back again, BA's! Right around noon here in pretty nice NOVA & I think I'll be breaking in a lot of new glass today, onto a new-brew/new-glass combo:

Very drinkable Italian-brewed Flanders Red. The tartness builds to almost critical mass & then recedes to reveal some pretty intriguing fruity depth-of-flavor. The oak colors the finish in a very nice, subtle way. Nothing brain-melting going on here, but man, this is solid :-)

After another week of travel, taking the day off to brew some beer and enjoy some brews at home. Cheers, BAs! (All grain Pliny the Elder clone)

Bottled 2013 and tasting very nice. And this color is amazing as well.
