Today my wife and I become empty nesters again, as the last child heads back to school.
I raise my glass of coffee to that.

Been on my radar for a while, but didn't want to commit to a four pack because both the beer fridge and cellar are kinda nearing capacity. Another unique IPA from DFH--not surprising; good way to start the day.

Good morning BA, have a great Sunday!

Fantastic red IPA! Flavors of huge mango, melon, peach, pineapple, berry, passion fruit, papaya, tangerine, grapefruit, lemon/orange zest, light pepper, and pine hops; with moderate sweet malts of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toasted biscuit; with herbal/floral/grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine/rind/spicy bitterness; with a nice balanced finish of sticky/resinous hop and creamy/bready malt character in the mouthfeel. Very juicy on hops, especially in the aromas; with a sizable malty backbone that is not overly sweet or heavy at all. I hope I can still find some more, I have just been grabbing singles and haven’t gotten a full 6 pack.

Tasting insane this year as expected. Huge juicy hops of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, passion fruit, mango, melon, papaya, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, and pine; with moderate bready/light caramel malt balance and herbal/floral/grassy hop earthiness. Sticky/resinous with a touch of malt creaminess in the mouthfeel; zero hop astringency and dangerously smooth. I’ll be in Ohio next weekend so I’ll be on the lookout, but I don’t have high hopes of finding any more.

Last bottle of Neptune, this is still tasting excellent! Flavors of big dark chocolate, cocoa, molasses, licorice, caramel, toffee, peppercorn, toasted dark bread, raisin, fig, date, wood, smoke, and herbal/roasted spice earthiness. Balanced amount of roast/herbal spice bitterness with slight pepper heat on the finish(that builds through the glass). Great all around balance between the malt and spice flavors; with a great creamy/silky full bodied mouthfeel. This has definitely improved and balanced out with age, with a better mouthfeel as well. With all of the love for Mexican stouts, I felt this fell into the same overall category; and while it is not as amazing as stuff like Bomb!, I wouldn’t mind seeing them make it again. It is very enjoyable.

My last 2012 bottle, absolutely incredible. Flavors of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, toasted dark bread, licorice, leather, tobacco, char, light pine, and light smoke. Good amount of roast/char and herbal/piney hop bitterness on the finish. Nice full bodied creamy/slick finish with balanced roast malt/hop sticky/chalky notes as well. Even after over 3 years, I am surprised how much hop character is still present; but given how hoppy Old Rasputin is fresh, this is right in the same area. Classic RIS qualities. I'll have to go buy more and try it fresh again to see the differences. I need start aging some more anyways.

Good morning, BAs! It looks like people are up and at it quite early today. I think I'll join you all.

Just received this brew yesterday (you know who you are; thanks!), and I'll be reviewing it over on New Beer Sunday. If you're having a beer for the first time, and you'd like to tell us a little bit about it, come on over and join us!

    Cheers, BAs!

Good morning, BA's and happy Spring / Vernal Equinox - spring officially arrived in the northern hemisphere this morning at 12:30 am....yea!! Forecast today though, is for a little dusting of snow :grimacing:....nature likes to mess with us at this time of year!

Ah well, I will enjoy some birding on my lake today, the migratory waterfowl are starting to amass on my channel, should be a great day! A nice spring like brew is in order!

Stopped at the newly re-opened Ohio Brewing Co. Saturday afternoon for a beer....they have been in several locations in Akron area over the past years, and now opened in a nice brewpub in the Highland Square neighborhood....cool!

I had a maple porter (too sweet!) and my friend had a Blonde ale (good!)

The 1st day of Spring BAs. I have no Equinox themed brews so I'm sipping a Kuhnhenn Solstice Stout, a blend of 4D and Solar Eclipse then barrel aged three years. 16% abv of amazing goodness!

Now playing: American Spring, a Brian Wilson produced album from the early 70s

    Happy Equinox BAs...
