    Good morning fellow beer connoisseurs. Chilly here in NJ, i saw my breathe this morning....warming up with this...

    Im so proud of this picture lol. Great beer. And i like the reference to the name and info from the bottle "FULL DISCLOSURE: THIS BEER CAME TO FRUITION BECAUSE WE SAW A GAP IN OUR PORTFOLIO AND WE WANTED TO INCREASE OUR MARKET SHARE" quite amusing because this DIPA has a lot of melon and tropical fruit like mango going on, much more popular these days and their original DIPA double dog is more balanced and malty in comparison maybe not as popular. Im usually not fond of flying dog ipas especially Double Dog because of boozyness and huge orange rind characteristics but im loving this one. Tried their core line up tonight too and so because of that, here is my friend, Dub. Drinking Flying Dog into the early AM with him

    Good morning BAs! Looks like a half decent day today - so far no rain or excessive wind as compared to yesterday. Of course the tree guys finished cutting down the spruce trees in my yard yesterday in the wind and rain but it was too wet to bring the stump grinder into the back yard. With the cold, looks like my rice crop won't do well this year, AGAIN! Oh well, at least the moss is doing well. Today's new breakfast beer is:

    Also, @WesMantooth Its funny you mentioned that about the color of the Dortmunder Gold and the Dog Days (in yesterday's WBAYDN) - I never thought of the dortmunder gold as a "darker" lager, but then seeing it against that other one, which really did look like a pilsner (also tasted like an overly sweet pilsner), it stood out.

    Southern Prohibition Ragana Baltic Porter

    Appearance: Dark (natch) with quickly dissipating tan cap.

    Aroma: It does have an Ethiopian coffee winey note. Don't find much in the way of malt or hops.

    Taste: I really wanted more. No, dammit, I think I was promised more. This one is all hat and no cattle, 7.8% is all that's heavy about it. It looks like a Porter, sorta smells like a Porter, but the emphasis is off the mark. It's as if someone left something out, like richly flavored malt. Roasting alone does not for rich make.

    Texture: Embarrassingly thin for the breed.

    Overall: It does have malt, it does have hops, just not as much as one might expect in a Baltic Porter. To me Baltic Porter means more and this one is less.

    To some who remember last Saturday this bottle may look familiar in shape :slight_smile: It is indeed from the same Duvel brewery in Moortgat.

    This is a pleasant surprise. Well-balanced, refreshing & the tart aspect is very subtle. Hats off to Flying Dog for taking a restrained & traditional approach to the style, rather than brewing up a sour-bomb.

    With that in mind, I'm thinking a nice waltz is in order:


    A lovely beer, a lovely tune & a lovely morning here folks :-)
