    Couldn't sleep and decided to binge-watch Mr. Robot to get all caught up. First round of coffee is gone; time to move onto morning beers. Realize it isn't the day to have books in the background, but we're doing some work in the upstairs and this represents one of the few remaining uncluttered spaces.

    Ok, I admit it, we've been watching the Penny Dreadful series on Netflix . . .

    Dreadful name but it's good stuff.

    Appearance is clean burnt umber. Nice egg shell cap with consistent lacing. The aroma is very malty in a good way, earthy, spicy hops in an undertone. Some caramel notes.

    Taste: Ah, yes, this is an ESB, make no mistake about it. Full, rich malt flavor seasoned by rather than dominated by hops. Toffee with little roasted malt bitterness. In fact the bitterness I note appears to come from the hops. Clean finish with tasty malt rather than hops apparent.

    A for effort here. They have managed to capture some of the best features of ESB with a hop crispness that overcomes malt sweetness. Very good balance.

    Picked up some new Maui Brewing beers this week....new to Ohio market....think they would have wanted to send some fresher beer to a new state (this one was canned in February for god's sake)....still pretty tasty

    Under-appreciated series for sure. Ending was a bit abrupt, but still delivered some solid emotion, and a few pieces of closure. The rest of the series is fantastic.
