What beer are you drinking now? #1450

Over in other threads we often talk about why some beers never earn higher scores. Look at the well known styles like the pilsner. Over at NBS we have nicknamed this year - not just this summer =) - the year of the pilsner. Here is a beer that crosses the lines and is a great beer to sit with a variety of threads.

Pours very pale gold with a slight haze from dry hopping. Beautiful bone white head that lasted very well. it went down with w fight clinging to the glass all the way. Nose is powerful with spice and there is a light burst of tangerine. A bit of cattiness from simcoe and a nice breaddy malt scent like an underpinning to the beer. Clean no diacetyl, no alcohol, no fruity esters form yeast, light dms. Taste is good. it's a bit bubbly for a pilsner but that helps to mitigate the strong combination of hops in this beer. Drinks with the flavor of tangerine and the simcoe help to keep an herbal quality in the flavor. Dry. very good! i think this is one of the most successful uses of the fruity hops in the pilsner style. What these hops don't do is encroach the middle of the beer with weighty, oily feeling mouthfeel and oily tasting fruit peel. The fruit flavor remains light enough so that it is refreshing and even though a touch more bubbly I would rather have this than one that is sweet or has too much abv.

The reason this beer will not have a score that earns a 4 is because of the haze, you have to tick down , the fruit scent, the fruit taste but then, you can show excellence in the mouthfeel score and overall if you think that this beer did something extra special in it's presentation despite the style parameters. I did. I thought it was light and that the extra carbonation kept it in the style. It has to meet the style to earn a world class score . Cheers BA!

Not the most appropriate beer and music pairing, but I've been enjoying this channel recently...

 

Washington (beer) meets and defeats Oregon (glass) after the rivalry game last night.

 

Beer Lab HI released a new beer yesterday, Nimbus IPA, so I had to swing by and try it. Really impressed with this one. It's straight up juice, has a strong citrusy hop profile, very well done. Easily THE BEST IPA I've had out of Hawaii. They only brew mostly one offs, but hopefully they decide to brew this regularly.

I apologize to all my fellow BA's. In frustration with my smoker and the weather I have switched to bourbon as an accelerant and my drink of choice. I cannot get this friggin smoker over 175 degrees.

Too late for the picture of the bourbon as an accelerant, but it was quite interesting. I could not use lighter fluid as in this rain I could not let it burn off.

 

I misread that. I thought you switched from beer to bourbon because of the smoker issues!
