For me, reading and typing simultaneously is like trying to field the ball while watching the runner. Only bad things can happen.

At least I got the number right. I think.

I don't go Belgian as much these days as I used to...
But Free Will has been good to me (Ralphius and Safeword), plus I do like apple brandy barrel-aging of beers (Golden Delicious and Beer Geek Brunch Weasel (Calvados edition) come to mind), so I grabbed a pair of these Ella...
Aromas of apple and booze on the nose immediately...
Looks like I'm pouring one o' those Pier One candles...
Watching the pour for any sedimentation (because, Belgian-style )...
So I'm going to pull up before I empty 'er out...
    And there you have it.

Flavor follows aroma, with plenty of apple impressions and something of a dark, slightly tart sweetness. Suggestions of boozy fig, wet brown molasses bread, slightly bitter caramel, and candied fruit. Medium feel with moderate carbonation. Tingles on the tongue, leaves a slight tackiness behind.

And yes, there was some yeast in the bottom, but not much came through on the little bit that remained, which I knocked back like a shot from, you guessed it, a shot glass...
Apparently not the cleanest glass in the house, as evidenced from the bubbles clinging to the side... :flushed: lol  (that's what causes that, right :astonished:?)

    Anyways...

    While posting, I heard...

    Cheers... :sunglasses:

Good morning, BAs! Fighting off the worst cold I've had in a long time. Last night, I could neither sleep nor eat. So, I figured some soup would be amenable to my stomach, and some beer .... well, it can't hurt, right? :stuck_out_tongue:

    Morning!
    Home from Colorado.
Time for chores and a beer.

Bringing in firewood this morning and this guy takes an interest.

Snow piled up pretty good in the driveway while gone.
Time to get the snow blower and 4-wheeler with plow cranked up.

Have a good one and be careful out there this weekend.

This just might be the world's silliest taste test, but I've had it on my mind for awhile.

Summit's 30th Anniversary Barleywine compared with Summit's Extra Pale Ale.

    Why? Good Lord, why???

Well, I'm glad you asked! Summit brewed the 30th Anniversary Barleywine as (quoting their web site) an "homage to the brew that has driven Summit forward for three decades. The barleywine takes inspiration from our classic Extra Pale Ale recipe, adopting the same essential profile while taking flavor and character to even greater heights."

So, I want to see if I can detect this "same essential profile" between the two.

So, it is not a taste test of which is better, but a taste test to see if I can identify the family resemblance...

Like I said, the world's silliest taste test!

(If the results are interesting - to ME - I'll post about them later; if not, well, at least I enjoyed two very good beers from Summit!)

Happy Friday, BAs! Trying out another MT beer for breakfast today. Picked up from City Beer Store last night.
I remember a discussion about this beer a few months back. Personally, I like the "bourbon-soaked coffee beans" approach. The bourbon stays in the background, with the coffee and chocolate notes being most prominent. Better than their brown ale I had for breakfast yesterday.

Good late morning BAs. I had to take my wife to PT this morning after the four inches of new snow we got last night and cleaned the driveway before I had to go back for her so I'm finally getting to suck down my New Breakfast Beer:

This really isn't a new beer for me because I had it last August but for whatever reason didn't review it. Anyway, this is one I'll be looking for again - nice and cherry!

Good morning and Happy Friday BA's! A lot of you are probably off today, maybe heading out for the weekend, so if we don't see you, please have fun and be safe for "Amateur Hour", and we'll see you in the New Year ! For those of you NOT leaving, final Holiday Glass of the Week Awards is tomorrow, so here is your final notice to get them in!!! Great. Today will be another classic version of GotD...Proper. Sure, a couple have been awarded before, but by different patrons here at the v-bar. After all that nonsense, it's time for the Glass of the Day Awards!

    GotD:
Simplicity and elegance take the cake for today brought to you by @911CROFT for this De Struise Black Albert post. Wonderful beer, wonderful pic. Cheers and congrats!
2nd: The Staff wasn't going to let @LeperJim off so easily with just one day of abuse for showing off his coin purse yesterday ! Too bad there is not a Sack of the Day Awards, cuz this would've been right there up with the best! (Right along with a certain Moderator who's name I will not mention, for those who remember .)
3rd: To @bobv for paying homage to the Tsar's (Czar's) good friend, Ol' Raspy. A beloved classic for many, myself included.

Honorable mentions go out to @mikeinportc for being a creative pioneer dedicated to the glass with his trusty camera bag glass, and to @JouerAvecLeFeu for this fun little number giving up the secrets to CB radio jargon :grinning:.
Cheers everyone, and I will see you all soon!

    GotD.

I put a six pack aside last year and drank some at various stages. Two were left so I decided to open one. At fourteen months today, it has held up remarkably well! The coffee and peppers are more subdued, but the cinnamon and cocoa are still quite prominent. The old label states 'for the holidays and the new year', so I'll get a jump on the new year. It's still technically the holidays here until the last tree comes down!

    Happy Friday/New Years weekend!

Edit: The abundance around here must have adjusted the 'rarity' factor at my local store as it was two bucks cheaper this year!:slight_smile:

if you had an aversion to coconut, well, you wouldn't buy this cause it says so on the label
if you accidentally drank from someone else's glass, it would send you to the hospital
