    For a brewery whose branding identity is, "We are German Craft Beer," when Schell's steps outside that large box, they usually kill it. They used to brew a nice pale ale, and 10 years ago or so they had a stout they described as a "London-style sweet stout that was very good, so when I saw this, I had to grab it.

    IMHO, they nailed this. The "tropical" is supposed to come from dark rum flavors, and it does - in spades. There's a lot of grainy bitterness smoothed out by the rum flavors, which gives this a lot of body, but not the heaviness you get in bigger stouts. This is a joy to drink on a frigid Minnesota evening.

    Not sure how, but I haven't seen her version of that live yet. She kills it - no surprise. She won me over the very first time I heard her do Ghost Love Score.

    Tonight's closer, Hoof Hearted Cultrider black IPA. Probably the best black IPA I've had, and you can't detect a stitch of it's 11.5% ABV.

    Hi there BAs, it's been a while since I've posted something here, so here's an old favorite of mine:

    Two things that strike me with this year's version. First, it's in SIX PACKS!! $10 or so for a six pack of a GOOD imperial stout is always a great thing. Second, it seems like this year's batch was brewed with Belgian yeast: I get notes of apple, pear, and cherry; not to mention the carbonation features a mouth-filling density atypical of a "standard" RIS (without being too fizzy)

    It's practically become a Belgian stout now - and I dig. Cheers, y'all!
