After a long search and some failed attempts to acquire Finlandia and Sah'Tea, I finally managed to track down a sahti, namely, Off Color Brewing's Bare Bear Finnish-style Sahti. Many people (notably Finns) told me that I was not going to like it as it's very different to what a "traditional" beer tastes like. However, after reading the reviews and descriptions of various sahti brands I was convinced that I was going to like it. And indeed, I liked it. In fact, I thought it was awesome. Not sure if this was brewed using the traditional technique of using hot stones to make the wort but it certainly tasted like it (lots of caramelization). It pours dark amber and somewhat hazy. Only a small head and with a retention of a few seconds. Lots of caramel and dark fruit on the nose. Some banana and clove. Also juniper berries and caramelized sugars. It tastes very similar to what the nose suggests. Not much bitterness. Sweetish in fact. Thin body. A very unique beer. And let's not forget the label. In light of recent reports for the invention of a new Finnish word to describe the habit of one drinking alone at home in his/her underwear (kalsarikannit), this label seems very appropriate (even though the bear is not actually wearing any underwear)...

Founders' Porter. Such a sophisticated brew. Wasn't expecting it to be this good.

Good morning BA, have a great Sunday! Looking to be another normal Sunday over here. Some rain in the forecast, but it will be fairly warm. Got work to catch up on, laundry, and bottle returns as usual. Will be packing up a beer shipment as well, just need to finalize the haul I have waiting for my target. Probably pull some cellar stuff too.

Still tasting awesome. Flavors of ruby red grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, passion fruit, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, and pine; with some honey, cracker, bready malt balance; and floral/grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine/rind/peppery bitterness on the finish; touch of fruit tartness. Medium bodied; crisp, sticky, resinous, and fairly grainy mouthfeel; touch of fruit acidity. Very drinkable with juicy hop/fruit flavors. Increasingly drying and never astringent. Almost 4 months old and still drinking great. Still have 1 left, but I bought a fresh pack of Sumpin' last week; so I probably won't get any more.

Absolutely incredible, glad these are year round cans now. I had not drank this for about 4 years prior to this 4 pack. Flavors of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, and pine hops; with moderate honey, bready, light caramel malt sweetness; and floral/grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine/citrus peel/rind bitterness on the finish. Medium-full bodied; with a creamy/sticky, and lightly slick/resinous balanced mouthfeel. Lightly increasing resin/rind dryness. Super juicy, bright, and fruity; malty yet never overly sweet. Mildly warming 10%. This is going to be a fridge staple DIPA for sure(as long as the freshness stays consistent). Raja has been hard to come by with decent freshness lately. Centennial, Simcoe, Columbus, and Chinook hops. One of my favorite hop profiles for any IPA/DIPA.

2015 is tasting insane as usual. Huge flavors of caramel, raisin, cherry, fig, date, apricot, apple, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, bourbon, and toasted oak; with light notes of molasses, vanilla, and coconut. Light balancing bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish against the sweetness. Minimal warming ABV or barrel booziness. Very smooth sipping; with a very creamy, silky, and slightly slick/syrupy full body mouthfeel. Love this the most after at least 1 year of age, to smooth out the boozy barrel notes. Grabbed 2 more packs of 2015 off the shelf in the last month, because they were still there. Glad these sit on the shelf for so long. One of my favorite cellar beers ever, hope to see Cinnsanity around eventually to check out. English barleywines are the best style.

Amazing! Flavors of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, maple syrup, molasses, brown sugar, fudge, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, and dark bread; with lighter notes of smoke, char, tobacco, coconut, raisin, fig, cherry, and dates. Increasing booze in the nose as it warms, but not overwhelming. Light-moderate roast/char bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish. Very full bodied and mellow carbonation. Incredible creamy/silky/slick mouthfeel; light sticky/chalky roast/char and oak tannins. Lightly increasing bitter roast and tannic oak dryness. Pleasingly warming 12%; some light barrel booze, but never overwhelming. Intensely rich and complex, with awesome barrel presence and balance. One of the better Jesus variations I've had, hope they brew it again. I just got Maple Biscotti and Jesus last week to review soon.

    Cheers

Apparently a lot of people hated this album, but it's a definite favorite for me. Not sure if I like King more or not. Agony is probably the least favorite, but it grew on me over time. Should be about time for a new album soon, they usually crank out the usual 2 year release of albums in the past.

Definitely looking forward to a new album from BTBAM soon. They have a Colors anniversary tour this year, but have been writing and planning. Should be no more than a year away.

A nice relaxing Sunday morning: playing some piano, and the doggies were picked up for transport down south for the move.

    Then, this happened:

This can completely exploded all over my kitchen! No idea, no warning; it was sitting on my counter top, and I figured it was a good choice for a morning beer: it's low ABV, it's a porter, check!

I cracked it open, and it immediately started spraying absolutely everywhere: me, the counter, bottles, the walls, cabinets. I am extremely fortunate I didn't open this near the piano. :grimacing::grimacing::grimacing:

I suppose I could still rate it for appearance (1.0) and aroma (3.5).

So ... on to plan B, then.

    OK, order has been restored.

    Cheers!

Wow that sucks, I thought that was a pretty well done beer and the one I drank I bought at the same time. I am pretty sure I can grab another one I was really interested to get your thoughts on it.

No worries! Two Roads is about an hour away from me, so I can likely find that one up here. I was definitely interested in it. No idea why it went and exploded; I haven't heard anything about infection.
