Had to wake up at around 3am to go to work (albeit only for a couple of hours) and I'm already back ready to chill with a nice beer for breakfast. How about something in the low end of the ABV spectrum?

New label but same old recipe for this iconic English pale ale: Timothy Taylor's Landlord Pale Ale. Brought to me by my sister, directly from the UK. I was expecting a bottle with the old label so I could add it to my collection of ugly labels (it was pretty ugly) but I waited too long before requesting my sister to bring me one and in the meanwhile the company introduced a new label). And while the new one is not particularly aesthetically pleasing either, it's not what I consider worthy of entering my hall of ugly label fame. The beer itself was very nice, very typically British, except for the rich head which is not common in ales originating in that part of the world. Lots of upfront bitterness and a candied apple sweetness toward the end. Drank it out of this oversize thistle-like glass that I'm still undecided whether I like or not.

Good morning BA, have a great Saturday! Looking to be a nice day today, aside from some possible storms in the afternoon. Not too hot or anything. After 5500th review last night, I plan on going out today and finding some more stuff to review. It's been getting hard to keep a good variety of new beers around. I will be visiting my parents next weekend in Ohio, so that will be another good chance to find stuff as well.

Haven't had this in 2 years. Just as fantastic as I remember. Flavors of big tart lemon, lime, green apple, peach, pear, apricot, white grape, pepper, hay, straw, wood, and grass; with moderate cracker/bready malt balance; and lighter notes of leathery/musty Brett funk and white wine vinegar. Moderate fruity/lactic tartness and some peppery Brett spice on the finish. Medium bodied; balanced bready/grainy malt and lactic acidity in the mouthfeel. Increasing lactic dryness, no puckering sourness. Very crisp and easy drinking, no warming ABV. Really well rounded sour/funky complexity. Apparently year round six packs now. Will grab again soon.

Awesome coffee DIPA. Looks paler in color than last year. Flavors of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, and pine hops; with balanced medium roast coffee, cocoa, and vanilla; caramel, toasted bread malt; and floral/grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus peel and light roasted coffee bitterness on the finish. Medium-plus bodied; balanced sticky/resins and creaminess in the mouthfeel; touch of chalkiness from cocoa/coffee. Increasing resin/rind dryness, no hop astringency. Very drinkable and minimal warming ABV. Pretty much perfectly balanced between cocoa/coffee and citrus/pine hop flavors; not overly sweet/malty. Will definitely be buying plenty more of this one, just like I did last year. Got my first pack a couple weeks ago.

Glad to be back in MI, and still one of the best RIS I've ever had. Head retention and lacing are crazy. Flavors of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, caramel, toffee, toasted biscuit, dark rye bread, nuttiness, smoke, and charcoal; with herbal, peppery, piney earthy hop balance. Moderate roast/char and piney/spicy bitterness on the finish. Full bodied creamy/silky mouthfeel; fair amount of sticky/resinous hops and chalky roasted notes. Increasing bitter hop/char dryness; no acrid/astringent flavors. Minimal warming ABV. This is absolutely sublime after a couple years, but I am still amazed with a 3 month old bottle. Absolutely flawless style example. Glad to have this as a year round now. Hoping the variants make an appearance eventually. Been many years since I had any of them.

2015 is still tasting amazing! Flavors of big tart/juicy raspberries, raisin, red grape, plum, pear, apple, pepper, candi sugar, and toasted bread; with some herbal hops and yeast earthiness. Balanced fruit tartness and peppery yeast spice on the finish against malt sweetness. Medium-full bodied; very smooth, fairly crisp, and lightly slick/syrupy mouthfeel. Some grainy/bready creaminess and fruit tannins. Good dryness from fruit acidity and yeast spice; never too sweet. Very drinkable. These popped up again earlier in the year, so I grabbed a few. Down to one bottle now. Should have gotten more, but I have a ton of Koz left anyways. This shows great balance of Belgian style character, without just being a straight over the top fruit beer. Love Rubaeus too, this is basically just the imperial Belgian version. One of my favorite fruit beers of all time. I wouldn’t mind Cerise coming back either.

This morning I got up and took dogs for a long walk. Now home enjoying Bell's BBA Expedition Stout:

Bottled 6/2/17 and packing 12.8% ABV.
Black as night with cinnamon tan head. Good cap retention. Moderately heavy lace and medium legs on swirl.

Dark and roasty. Caramel, toffee and bourbon nose. Poured at 56 degrees and the oak and bittersweet chocolate continue to open up. Some dryness from the barrel. Medium full feel but more dry than viscous. Tiny alcohol bite on the tip of my tongue.
Semi sweet caramel and toffee finish. If the base is that which won silver at GABF, the BBA version is pure heaven - Cheers morning imbibers!

I've had two long dog walks this morning. Our newest adoptee, Sasha, likes to walk with the other two dogs, but she's shy about performing in front of them. So we walk, return, then I take Sasha back out for her "private" walk.
    Cheers!

De Halve Maan Straffe Hendrik Wild (2016) or as it is otherwise known "Brett On Steroids à la Belge". Stinkier than milk left in the sun for a week in summer, a landfill set on fire, or a Balkan truck driver after a week on the road. No idea how anyone without a serious stink-fetish could enjoy this.

I went to my local small grocery store and found a mountain of Brooklyn Defender at $4.99 a six pack along with 2 other Brooklyn varieties including a wheat beer and a citrus pale ale. I walked out with 3 cases that I will split with Big Mike. What a deal !!! The enjoy by dates are all in August to boot. Got'em in the fridge and waiting for noon  I just love a deal. I inventory some $4.99 beers and it takes the pressure of of the expensive stuff. But fresh Defender as the cheap stuff  ??? Holy right place at the right time !! :grinning::grinning::grinning::grinning:
