    De Ranke Bitter XX.

This is seriously fun. The bitterness (while fairly mild by US standards) just lingers forever.

Good morning BA, have a great Saturday! Hope everyone is enjoying the holiday weekend so far. After brewing an Irish red ale last weekend(finished fermenting in 3-4 days); I am brewing again today with an American stout, that is supposed to be a clone of Sierra Nevada. Got a kit off Morebeer again. Judging by the ingredients used, they match the SN website; so it'll be pretty close. Smells like coffee in here right now. Also finally got some line cleaner for my kegerator. Will probably flush my lines when I keg the Irish red ale next weekend. https://www.brewtoad.com/recipes/cali-mountain-american-stout

    Beers this morning:

My go-to Oatmeal stout. Flavors of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toasted oats, dark bread, and nutty malts; with light licorice, dark fruit, molasses notes and herbal/peppery noble hops. Light-moderate herbal/spicy hop and roast malt bitterness. Medium bodied; great creamy/silky and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel. Lightly increasing roasted dryness. This is always awesome. I still haven't updated my review for this, it needs to be done eventually.

Incredible as always. Flavors of juicy grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, melon, passion fruit, berry, lemon/orange zest, and light pepper/pine hops; with moderate caramel, toasted biscuit malt; and herbal, floral, grassy hops earthiness. Light-moderate pine/grassy bitterness. Very smooth finish with balanced hop stickiness and bready creaminess in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing bitter dryness, never astringent. Has all the Mosaic and Citra hop flavors I love, with balanced bready malts to make it taste super juicy. Glad I decided to revisit this beer last year, a top favorite IPA now for sure. Got a super fresh 6 pack last week. I need to keep this around more often. I love so many Deschutes beers, it's hard to choose which one I want. They are all on rotational 6 pack buys.

Amazing DIPA! Flavors of big tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, light pepper, and pine hops; with moderate cracker, white bread, light honey/caramel malt balance; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium-plus bodied and moderately crisp; balanced bready/grainy malt and sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Light resins, increasing bitter dryness, zero hop astringency. Insanely drinkable; never overly aggressive. Extremely vibrant, juicy, and dank hops; with a great malt backbone. Never sweet or heavy feeling. One of the most refreshingly drinkable DIPAs I've ever had.

My last one from 2015, hope they release it again next year. This is tasting amazing! Flavors of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, raisin, peach, plum, date, apricot, red apple, citrus rind, and pine; with balancing caramel, toffee, brown sugar, toasted brown bread, and light nutty malt sweetness; with herbal, floral, grassy hops and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus rind, grassy bitterness on the finish. Medium-full bodied; balanced creamy/slick malts and sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Some resins/rinds and increasing dryness. Never astringent. Very smooth sipper, mildly warming 10.6%. English barleywines are my favorite style, but this one is definitely a top favorite American barleywine; due to the fact they have an English house yeast and it's not super aggressively bitter. Pretty much an English/American hybrid on the style; to me at least. It has aged exceptionally well over the last 2-3 years.

The Ale Apothecary • 2014 Sahati + Wolf Tree • Barrel Aged Spruce Tip

I wanted to do a side-by-side on these two barrel aged spruce tip beers. The Wolf Tree was quite good, but the barrel taste muted the spruce. In my opinion, I think the non-barrel version in better. By The Ale Apothecary Sahati is one of my favorite beers brewed, so the Wolf Tree didn’t stand a chance.

Slept in again this morning. Now I'm ready for my coffee:

Depending on the weather today, we may hit up the Grand Central (Antiques) Saturday Market a short walk from our apartment, or drive to nearby Gulfport and hook up with wife's high school chum there for the day long GeckoFest with live music, arts and crafts. Have a great Saturday y'all!
