I woke up and turned on the morning news. Then headed down to the cave for a beer.

This two year old beer from regional brewer Four Fathers is much better than the news. Do something kind for someone this week.....

I tried one of these from 1993 the other week. Now back to the new vintage. Lovely, and very different fresh. Much more alcohol heat. Cheers!

And finally - the 2010 port version.
A strange (but good) beer in comparison. I meant to space these three out over the day but I get obsessed. In my defense, bottles are only 9.3 oz and I've only poured two thirds of each bottle out. I'll go back for those final few ounces a little later.

Starting the day with a couple new coffee beers.

This was a bit of a let down for me. Kinda watery and vegetal like green bell peppers. Not much coffee or flavor in general. Not the worst beer though, just light.

This is better. Nice roasted coffee in this malty brown ale from Foundation. Cheers!

Light golden color with white cap and lacing.

Aroma of sweet bread and flowers. Sounds fancy but that's what I get.

Flavor on entry seems a bit light but rapidly grows richer with hops adding to the mix. The bready qualities remain but the hops take on a more spicy turn with a refreshing bitterness in the finish and aftertaste.

This beer from Windmill is like eating a fresh mango. They're pretty good at the fruity milkshake style IPA's if you're into that kind of thing.

From Temescal Brewing in Oakland. The recipe is from the outgoing brewer, but this time they brewed it with twice the guava and it shows.

This is absolutely fantastic! Bright guava notes burst on the aromatics and in the taste, so it's really pleasantly fruity. Yet, it has a grapefruity bitterness too, which keeps it from being a sweet beer. Then it finishes with that grainy malt that I get in a lot of Temescal and Cellarmaker beers. (It should, since the outgoing brewer was at Cellarmaker prior.)

Probably my favorite beer from these guys!

Followed those coffee beers with this nice local juicy IPA from Mystic, using what I hope are some of the cheapest labels around. They've been making some great IPAs lately. This is probably one of the best I've tried from them so far. Really great juicy IPA. Cheers!
