    Good morning Beer Advocates!

It’s about 12 hours too early for me to start drinking but I will sip a vintage 2007 Avery, The Beast now until happy hour.

This old dark Beast is not bad...but it ain’t good either.

Look for a noontime DotD standings update and a 10th pour pic of this beer.

NOTE: Special thanks again to @Todd and @Jason (the highest BA authorities) for tolerating this annual WBAYDN event.

    Cheers!

Morning, BAs. Today is all about Dark Beers and Christmas Beers. Guess which I chose first?

My daughter woke from an honest-to-Satan nightmare and neither of us could get back to sleep, so I'm up early. Time to win some slippers. Honestly, I'm a little stuffy this morning, but this one from evil incarnate is just so tempting.

And the updated DotD ritual for 2017...

    Cheers!

An early start to one of my favorite beer days of the year! Epitome was released, appropriately, on Black Friday and it's my favorite Carton beer. I was planning to spend a few hours at the office today but I learned about a release I can't miss so I'm re-calibrating. Cheers for a great DOD! See you all later.

Hey...you. Single dork beer lover that won last year's DOTD. What else do you have going on today? You should drink me now.

It's 8 AM! I don't want you. And you're so friggin boozy! Jesus.

I actually have no alcohol. I'm just dark, yummy water. It's all an illusion...

Ok then, I will drink you now.

Mmmmm...you taste like heaven. Are you sure you're 0% abv?

    Mwahahahaha.

Good morning BA, have a great Saturday! Got my DotD beers all planned out for this morning. Looking like a good day to stay home with the weather, we are supposed to get a few more inches of snow today.

Fantastic as usual! Flavors of big toasted coconut, milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, vanilla, cream, toffee, dark bread, marshmallow, and light coffee. Light balancing roast bitterness against sweetness; with an amazing creamy/silky/velvety medium body; light touch of sticky/chalky roast character and dryness. Glad it was easier to find this year. Definitely my top favorite coconut beer, but there are plenty others I buy more often. Wish this was year round. I bought a full case worth of 4 packs this year lol. This, Born Yesterday, and Xocoveza are my top big buy beers of the season.

Incredible again this year. Flavors of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, cinnamon, vanilla, cream, nutmeg, chile pepper, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, and toasted dark/brown bread. Light roast/char/spice bitterness on the finish. Medium-full bodied; great creamy/silky mouthfeel, with some light sticky/chalky roast/spice notes. Lightly increasing bitter/spicy/roast/char dryness. Minimal pepper heat. Balance is pretty much perfect between spices and stout flavors. Already grabbed 3 packs, but I will definitely get at least 1 more. Went through 3 packs of Mocha IPA this year. Also grabbed a bottle of Charred recently. Already reviewed it, but I feel it is worth the price to revisit.

Outstanding fruit stout! Aromas and flavors of big lightly tart cherries, fruit skin, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, toasted oak, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of coffee, coconut, and smoke. Light roast bitterness, bourbon/oak tannin spice, and cherry tang/tartness on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel that is fantastic. Light cherry tang/acidity, bourbon/oak tannins, and slight chalky roast. Lightly increasing tart cherry and oak tannin dryness. Slightly increasing cherry pucker. No cloying or astringency. Minimal warming 9.3%. Absolutely perfect balance between stout, cherries, and bourbon barrels for this one. Great barrel integration with zero booze at all. Glad it finally hit distro this week. Will gladly get more. Really enjoy the base beer, and this is definitely a nice step up from that. 12 month aged in barrels according to the label. The silky barrel smoothness is definitely a highlight, along with the added barrel complexities. 4.15

Review 6100. This was amazing! Fantastic lasting head retention and thick lacing on the glass. Aromas and flavors of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, nutty dark roasted coffee, caramel, maple syrup, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of coconut, molasses, and smoke. A little muted on aromas. Light roast bitterness and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and full body; with a fantastic smooth, creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel. Slight chalky roast, oak tannins, and dryness. Minimal warming 11.7%, zero barrel booze. Perfectly balanced between barrel, malt, and chocolate/coffee flavors. It has some noticeable differences from KBS, but really not much of an improvement. My rating was the same. Less coconut from barrels, added sappy syrup flavors, a bit more dryness? Really don't have much to complain about with this one. 4.38

[IMG] Awesome start all, I chose this before I realized. Always a fun event @LeperJim and as most of you already know I just love this beer. After this I am down to 6 of the 30 I have purchased. Off to Santa's Village with the kids. See you later.

Gigantic • 2017 Bourbon Barrel MASSIVE!

Gigantic’s barrel aged beers are vastly under rated. They age this stuff for 18 months - hence it’s release every other year. Whereas not as good as the 2013, I think this year’s batch might be better than the 2015. Also like the new smaller format - especially at 14.3%.

I picked up this transmission from the dark reaches of space last night, while I was searching for signs of more "strangers."

I'm not sure what it means, but I also got out my telescope, and saw this from the same direction of the transmission. I was pointing my devices in the direction of post #1 today, and I feel this dark matter may have emanated from that location - the @LeperJim nebula.

Of course, these are artists renderings of the data received, and may not accurately reflect what is going on in the darkness and vast emptiness of space, but I am appreciative to have gotten to witness it.

Thanks to @LeperJim for getting us going on this DARK day. Pretty awesome posts from @thebeers and @GreenBayBA early on! Glad I have the chance to crack something devilish from the dark side today. Trying this crazy huge stout from De Struise. Black Albert aged in Cognac barrels. Absolutely pitch black with zero carbonation. Lovely stuff! Cheers!
