What beer are you drinking now? #1883

On this dark evening I’m having ’t Ei van de Duivel. That translates to: The devil's egg.
A collaboration between Duvel Moortgat & Brewery 't IJ. Black Rye IPA made with Citra and Amarillo hops.

Good morning and happy Day of the Dark! I’m really enjoying all of the posts so far, especially @GreenBayBA and his corpse paint. That shit was for real frightening and very well done! I don’t have any evil/darkly themed beers, or face paint, but I do have this black as midnight Obsidian Stout-



Obsidian was favored by indigenous peoples for its sharp edge, and thus, ability to kill. That’s pretty dark I guess. And I do always feel a bit evil when it have a beer before noon, in a homely, Ned Flanders sort of way.



Anyway, keep the awesomely dark posts coming! And thank you @LeperJim for hosting this!

I'm starting nightshifts tonight so I had to get an early jump on the Belgian Christmas beer tasting. This one was first while making vegetable soup...

We're lucky in Indiana to have a brewery that does Belgian styles well. Taxman has a solid lineup.
As a treat for finishing some chores and my current glass...

Excellent. Picked this up last year, but it never showed up this year. Enjoy what's in your glass today! I'll be back with something "darker" in a few minutes.

Creepy but festive.

 

You're welcome. That was the third one from last night. I like to re-live the joy the next day sometimes.

 

It looks like you were warming up with a little OV Splits.

 

A couple years in the basement has done this beer real fine.

 

Time to start spreading some cheer . . .



Deep amber gold color with white cap and lacing.

Marvelous scent of spiced caramel malt. Brewer lists nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger and allspice though I can't pick them out individually which is either descriptive of my ability or evidence of how well they are blended. I suspect the latter.

Flavor on entry is a richer version of the scents. This is a heavier than average flavor amber without the touches of bitterness that sometimes accompany using darker malt in the mix. I think this one would work well on it's own without the spices, but then it wouldn't be a Christmas brew.

Smooth, medium-full texture with balancing carbonation.

Altogether a treat. These things can come off as unbalanced but this one works.
