    I had totally forgotten today was Day of the Dark.

    When I went to the fridge, I had an IPA in my hand and something made me put it back and grab a Fidy...

    Breaking in my new glass. No BCBS in the house.

    Advocates, I woke up at 5:30 a.m. this morning, looked at the first post and decided to clock out of this competition, I’m not even gonna try. I just got home from a really bad 5K race (badly organized, etc.) and I’m not getting off of the sofa the rest of the day except to get beer. Cheers.

    Columbia SC has a new brewery. Cottontown Beer kicking it off with $3 pours. Hell yeah!

    I'm back with a closer. On October 26th, I set out to brew a tropical stout. I may have consumed a few too many homebrews that morning. What was supposed to be four gallons of tropical stout became three gallons of dark tropical barleywine. This is the first I've opened after 25 days in the bottle.

    If anyone were in the mood for a thick caramel chocolate barleywine, have I got a DARK beer for you. I'll likely let most of this sit in the basement for a year or two before drinking.

    A BA Ten Fidy. Unfortunately I was putting it away and the can exploded, so I’m drinking what I salvaged. It also brought home the soy sauce aspect of some stouts, my kitchen smells like a bottle of soy exploded. I’m kinda pissed drinking this stuff now, so I’m not enjoying it much., not really tempted to slurp it off the floor. Like WTF.

    ~ 1:00PM Update!

    First a beer. I'm not sure what pour this is but "The Beast" has blown out my sinuses today. We could be looking at a miracle drug here...except first, you have to pay $10 for the bottle of beer, then age it for 10 years.

    Gonna keep it brief to allow more space for the BA's who use this day as an excuse to skip a therapy session.

    The Fifth Annual Day of the Dark got under way at approximately 6:00AM EST.

    Question: How bad could somebody want a pair of Cthulhu slippers?

    @thebeers SETS THE BAR at what might be an untoppable height. It is 6:26AM EST. A particularly disturbing beer advocate relationship with beer is combined with FRIGHTENING preparation, dedication, a little subtle Krampus love, a daughter's sudden fortunate nightmare (the nightmare was obviously watching her father set this madness up, but we won't go there), a proper video, Ewok deployment and much more that he's probably not sharing.

    These images have taken this event into uncharted waters right off the bat...

    @DoctorZombies probably having lunch and already into his 5th beer in Basal Switzerland, checks in to plug DotD with a Liechtenstein dark beer while him and his wife baffle us with their international travels. They're probably spies, but for who? Included in this post are some valuable travel tips. Check it out!

    @GreenBayBA Just when you thought it could not possibly get any stranger. Four bottles of Darkness and a full Surly Teku glass? Sure, that happens all the time. Corpse paint on trash-talking GreenBayBA guy? You would expect that. He corpse painted Baby Cthulhu?? NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE! GreenBayBa crosses the streams and we have a race!

    @Highbrow quickly rights the ship, reminding us that yes, there are adults on this thread, with classic Highbrow photography, great beer and proper glassware. This post really classes the place up...but it probably won't last. Mr. Highbrow could actually win...but would he really want the slippers?

    @CanConPhilly SCARY! SCARY! SCARY! Last years winner and clearly his condition has worsened.

    @superspak Another past winner of DotD! What an incredible line up of four dark beers! SOMEHOW he manages to maintain his composure in the face of all the insanity going around him at the virtual bar. It is 7:50 AM EST. Thank you and good luck.

    As I write I am anxious to post these comments right now because they could serve as a warning to innocent new visitors wandering onto the WBAYDN thread...but I will let them deal with it themselves.

    @SawDog505 Opens a Dark Beer before heading out to Santa's Village with the kids, but let's be honest, he would go with or without the kids. I digress! SawDogs shares knowledge of his alarmingly depleted supply of XOCOVEZA. We are all dutifully concerned. : )

    BREAKING NEWS!!!

    NOTE: The Day of the Dark Council of Elders (me), are pleased to announce that in light of the AMAZING beers being consumed on WBAYDN #1883 coupled with the gripping fear of disappointing whoever the seriously messed up BA is that comes in second, that a SECOND PLACE PRIZE will now be awarded!! And that prize is...

    ...another pair of Cthulhu slippers! ...and probably some beer.

    I had a post all ready to go for Day of the Dark after running a 5k this morning, then image hosting woes struck once again. At home on the couch with ice and a very drinkable cheap Mexican lager that is good as gold right now. Let's see if Instagram cooperates this time?

    After hitting preview the image doesn't appear, so I guess not? Cheers people, enjoy your day......
