Quite possibly the best non-BA Stout I've had so far.

The Kernel are really good, their IPAs are quite distinct, old school but with a twist.

Good morning BAs! Don't know how warm it is today, but it's approaching slush outside. After 0830 I'll try to move it. Today's New Breakfast Beer, courtesy of @Dragginballs76 and NBS BIF #6:

Prairie never disappoints. Especially not standard, their Saison.

Beautiful clear gold color with white cap and good lacing.

Aroma of honey malt and bright, sharp citrusy hops. There is a secondary scent that I take to be the orange blossom yet it strikes me more as a perfumy citrus essence than orange. Anyway it blends seamlessly with the malt and hops.

Oh, the flavor. Not just malt but solid, rich, honeyed malt with complexity and depth completely surrounded by hops as light and bright as Spring Sunshine. If you handed me this in a blind tasting I would've thought Helles. But not quite. The Orange Blossom (that's what the brewer says) or essential oil, or whatever they're using, does set this apart from the traditional malt rich Helles (a classic in it's own right) yet does so as a polite addition with the gentle acceptance of a welcome guest. I hope they used actual orange blossoms but perhaps that's the romantic in me. Hops shine through the finish and linger pleasantly in the aftertaste.

A wise morning choice, cleaning and packing before a trip to NM (conference)...also to seek out new beers and bring them back. Taking a break from BA for a few as we get out and hike, enjoy life, etc. Cheers!

    The Ham Sammich with Greens

The dunkel lager pairs perfectly with my smoked ham sammich because it has a thin but firm ribbon of caramel. It's nothing too sweet or even prominent. Only a hint of bitter chocolate in this one and that is why I like it so much. It is a bit nutty. With the smokey spiral ham and turnip greens it gives a good malty depth and only a very light hop presence. I cooked the onions but left them in circles because it looks so nice. That took their edge away and made them more friendly to my beer. I did not use mustard but rather the ham gravy from when I first cooked the ham to make my greens and to top my sammich. You can also use any fat you glean from cooking ham to cook greens. Ribbons! Cut them to ribbons! Dunk those carrots int hat instead of ranch. That is my home made bread right there. You can also pair this sammich with the schwarzbier, the dry stout and the rauchbier. Cheers!

So glad I picked up more of this. It's not a perfect beer, but it's damn good, especially for the price point. And it's certainly the best beer in my glass. :grinning:
