Omnipollo Zodiak, this stuff is quite unlike any other IPA I've had so far. It has some kind of note to it that reminds me of vanilla, but not quite. I also don't see how you would get a vanilla flavor in a non-BA IPA, can't really put my finger on it. Very tasty though.

Good morning BAs! Well, Mrs. Lizard went to lunch with a bunch of her friends Tuesday and appears to have returned home with a virus, most likely a rhinovirus. I can't wait to get it! Today's New Breakfast Beer is yet another from the killer boxes I received from @Dragginballs76 in NBS BIF #6:

Best brown ale I've ever had! Thanks Michael!

Rain, rain, rain, oh well, I can rail at the weather or Stout at the Devil . . .

Rich dark blackish color with gold tints at the edges and small cap.

Aroma of dark ripe fruit and chocolate with hints of brown sugar.

Taste on entry is a rather complex group of flavors consisting of dark roasted malt, coffee, cocoa, demerara sugar and sharp vanilla all intertwined like a Belgian chocolate truffle. That description sounds sweeter than it is because it finishes somewhat dry with an assertive roast malt bitterness emerging in the aftertaste.

There's a lot to like about this one flavor wise and little to discredit it. I could do without the surge of bitterness in the aftertaste but that's a minor quibble. The malt is strong in this one but the other elements add a complexity that advance it a couple steps above the ordinary oatmeal coffee stout.

Modern times Fruitlands 4.8%. Sour Tropical Fruit Gose. Not a big fan of sours Im surprised I like this one. Not super sour. Doesn't taste like straight vinegar. Not too salty. Really good smooth light malt flavor that keeps it mellow and gives some balance. Says pilsner and malted wheat on the can. It works good. I'm drinking it along side Luponic Distortion and Founders Breakfast Stout after a night shift. No real reason why I'm drinking them all 3 at the same time out of a taster glass but they're all tasting better than expected together. The Founders stout really shines after tasting the other 2 first. I get why I always see people drinking them in the morning.

This one is made by my favorite Alabama brewer, Straight to Ale in Huntsville, who's Brother Joseph Belgian Dubbel is outstanding.

Thank you, I will check them out online

Looking at them online, looks like a fantastic place. I see they do some distilling there also, that is cool. Their beer lineup looks great.

Founders Breakfast Stout 8.3%. Really solid stout. Bottled on 11.3.17. I prefer my stouts to be really fresh and not aged. This one at about 90 days doesn't have barely any noticeable boozy flavor as a opposed to on tap I thought I could taste the alcohol. I'm also not really picking up the 60 ibu. Even fresh on tap I didn't get a whole lot of bitterness from hops or black coffee bitterness, just good dark roasty balance, so I'm not sure about the 60 ibus.
I'm glad to find another good stout to add to my faves along with Bells special double cream, stone Xocoveza, and Old Rasputin. I was going to save two of these Founders for like a year to see what it taste like but that's not going to happen.

[IMG] Third one from the left, Founders CBS. On draft is even more amazing and that is saying a lot.[IMG] The close up. Love this sauce!
