My wife and I are celebrating our wedding anniversary today, so I took this to mean it's "open a special beer day"! I have been waiting for a while with this one. A 1977 Courage Russian Imperial Stout. Slight hiss when I cracked the cap, which was surprising. Other than that, no signs of carbonation. Nose is heavy on licorice, molasses, smoke, and dark fruit. A bit of root beer and soy sauce as well, but not in an off-putting way. Fun experience!

Opened a 500ml bottle of Black Boss Porter, from Poland, to have with my eggs and toast. Ick. Way too sweet for my taste. I will go back to Zywiec Porter, which I like much better than this.

I hate to waste any beer, though. Maybe I will cut the rest of the Black Boss with something else and make a black & tan for lunch time.

    Na zdrowie

Splitting a $37.50 can of Blue Light with the wife. I packed my usual box when we were in NH and she added two of the Blue Lights. Thus, the box weighted >50 lbs, so I was charged $75 for the overweight fee. It wasn't the usual guy at curb side, a $20 tip to him would have checked the box for free.

Packing for today's trip to Orlando for the Tour de Cure bike ride tomorrow. It's always amazing how much crap it takes to go for a 50 mile bike ride....

Good luck on the ride. That's one of the reasons I got into running - it was so much effort to get ready for a ride (and travel for rides)!

Next up is another one I have been looking forward to trying. This is Al9or1thm by Uiltje. This is an imperial stout aged on Makers Mark, Jim Beam bourbon & Jack Daniels casks. It comes in at 14.4% and it's amazing. Another sunny day in Freiburg. Looking forward to a trip to Colmar (France) tomorrow. Cheers!

Forgot to pick up some Dry Irish Stout for today so this will have to substitute . . .

Deep ruddy brown color with orange highlights and small khaki colored cap.

Slightly sweet aroma of dark malt, touch of coffee and light smoke.

Flavor is similar to the aroma but deeper and richer. Fairly simple flavors that play well together. Consistent from start to finish I don't find any one flavor overriding the others. I don't really find hop flavor but there's enough hop presence to offset the malt and keep sweetness in balance.

    Medium-full texture with balancing carbonation.

Can't really speak as to style but except for the sweetness it does remind me of the Belhaven Scottish Ales I enjoyed years ago.

Don’t mind the Rangers logo...I’m at Madison Square Garden for the FDNY/NYPD hockey game and I found the good stuff. Really cool I can buy a Higher Burnin’ ipa at the game. Let’s go Fire!
