What beer are you drinking now? #206

Workin on a big eddy scotch ale, but don't worry, I'll be having another home brew and will post a pic then, got ticking duties to attend to right now. ChEErs

Since my plane was delayed last night, I ended up going into work at the hospital on 5 hours of sleep. It was touch and go for a while but turned out pretty decent. And it was like 80 degrees out so I celebrated with a NG Berliner Weisse. After dinner, I took it out onto the balcony and enjoyed a short rainstorm with my fiancée. Nice and refreshing altogether.



Then I finished up with a Deschutes Black Butte Porter. Delicious as always- one of my favorite shelf beers. They need to distribute into Wisconsin ASAP- why the hell are they expanding into Nebraska when they've just started distro to Illinois, and of course not distributing into Wisconsin?

 

first time with this 'session IPA' from Atwater Brewing in Detroit

this tastes almost exactly like the last IPA I homebrewed, which unfortunately isn't really a compliment. it's got some good bitterness, but virtually no aroma hops to be found and this off-putting aftertaste which I can't quite put my finger on, but my homebrew had the same unfortunate taste. however, like my homebrew, it's not very good, but still drinkable and not bad enough for a drain pour.

that being said, this was one of a few old bottles I grabbed from work to make room for some new stock. not the best idea to try an IPA for the first time with a ~5 month old bottle, gonna have to try a fresher one soon before writing this one off.

 

I approve of all of this.

'12 BCBS, I thought this was a bit of a hot mess when it first came out but I've been having one every few weeks and they just keep getting better.

Picking up some of that this week...

 

Next on the agenda is Flat 12's Walkabout Pale Ale. It's not bad but it could be a lot better considering it's 100% Galaxy hopped. I'm still waiting for these guys to truly impress me. A lot of their brews are really well reviewed (this one is a 4.21) but it stinks of homerism to me.

 

Preping for a brew day (an all aussie hop pale ale) this weekend and my first Furious... I need to make a trip to MN and buy a case

 

Enjoying this on the first 90-plus degree day of the year here in Chicago. Picked up this past weekend in Springfield while down for a family wedding.

 

I really dug the big eddy wee heavy. Great beer in my opinion.

 

Do it. It's tasty. And I wish to hell I was able to pick up the same glass and some of what you are/were drinking tonight!

Now this...not a huge hoppy IPA guy, but I'm gonna keep trying...
