Been to the "Festival der Bierkulturen" (festival of beer culture) here in Cologne today. Kind of interesting, but I don't think these beer festivals are really for me. Too many people, too small pours, etc., etc. Still had some nice beers:

    Wildfang#1 (Orcabräu)
Saison aged in plum brandy barrels. Nice tart plum aroma/flavour with light notes of citrus, oak, vanilla and a certain herbal quality.

    Pssst...! (Orcabräu)
BBA Mint Milk Stout that tastes just like After Eight mints. Very little barrel character, but strong notes of mint and chocolate.

    Sweetwood 7 (Brauprojekt 777)
A licorice-infused Stout that drinks more like a Black IPA. Very light, watery body, but with a strong sweet licorice character balanced nicely by a certain bitterness and roasted malt.

    New England IPA (Heidenpeters)
Your typical juicy tropical/citrus NEIPA with a light bitterness and mild hop burn acidity coming through in the aftertaste.

    Leipziger Gose (Bayrischer Bahnhof)
Surprisingly mild Gose with a very light tartness/saltiness and notes of citrus with a certain grassy, herbal quality.

    Bergamot Gose (Bayrischer Bahnhof)
Strong Bergamot/Earl Grey character with light citrus and and fizzy powder notes. Light tartness and acidity in the aftertaste.

    Verdamp (Bäm Bäm Bräu)
Very nice Black IPA with strong roasted malt and citrus notes. Hints of coffee and a mild, grassy dankness.

    Aam Lassee (Third Sector Brewing)
Another typical European "Milkshake IPA" that's nothing but a NEIPA with small amounts of lactose. Bright, juicy mango aroma/flavour with light citrus notes and hop burn in the aftertaste.

    Black Out Rum BA (Braustelle)
Strong rum rum barrel character with notes of banana, coconut and chocolate. Very boozy, probably too much, actually.

    Lemonthyme Session IPA (Heidenpeters)
Very strong thyme note in the nose, less so on the tongue, but still there, with hints of citrus and a certain herbal grassiness.

    Tritium (Solvar Society)
A pink peppercorn rye IPA. It's not easy doing pink peppercorns right. These beers can easily turn overly floral and soapy, rather than spicy, which is exactly what happened here.

I expected it to be a bit more tart, but still very refreshing.

Really liking this one. Roast & cherries are harmoniously blended. Gets even better as it warms to room temperature.

    Cheers!

Everybody’s gettin some sun, including Angus

I’m enjoying this Adroit Theory The Death of Civilization in Slow Motion which is one of better NE IPA’s I’ve had lately. There’s a dry, pithy, grapefruit juice component, coupled with tropical pineapple juice as well. It’s outstanding.

This has been sitting in the fridge for the past 4 days. Time to finally open it. Very satisfied that this brew still retains a good bitter kick. Very very good stuff, and this is coming from someone who is tired of the "juicy" stuff.
