Have a nice weekend everyone. Today’s schedule is BBQ with the kids by the pool @ my cousin’s house. Until then....

Sudden Brainwaves - Imperial Blueberry Honey Oat Cream IPA (8%) collab by Other Half & Northern Monk. Crushed with blueberries and New York State honey, a ton of oats and some lactose sugar, then smashed with Mosaic hops.

Lunch beer, a pretty decent lager to start the day, while watching round 1 of the NHL draft. I was hoping the Red Wings would grab Quinn Hughes, but Zadina will do!

Good morning BA, have a great Saturday! Supposed to be some storms out there today. Probably going to make a new beer run later on.

This is still tasting great. Flavors of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pepper, and pine hops; with balanced caramel, honey, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, and toasted oak sweetness; and floral, grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus rind bitterness and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Medium-full bodied; balanced creamy/silky/slick malts, sticky/resinous hops, and oak tannins in the mouthfeel. Increasing bitter/tannic dryness, no astringency. Minimal warming 12.4%. Definitely a lot more malty and pronounced barrel, but still nice levels of citrus/fruity hops still there. Never overly sweet or heavy. I have 1 or 2 left now. Been fun watching it develop over time. Got plenty of Dankwood now, which I thought was even better.

Amazing as always. Aromas and flavors of huge milk/dark chocolate, nutty coffee, vanilla, cream, caramel, brown sugar, marshmallow, toffee, fudge, bourbon, rye whiskey, coconut, toasted oak, and dark/brown bread; with light notes of molasses, raisins, smoke, and herbal/peppery hops. Mild roast/char bitterness and bourbon/rye/oak spiciness on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel that is fantastic. Minimal chalky roast, oak tannins, or dryness. Dangerously smooth sipping, mildly warming 12%, zero barrel booze. Super rich malt complexity and balanced vanilla/coffee flavors; with perfect barrel integration. Never boozy, tannic, or drying. Not overly roasty or bitter. One of the smoothest BBA beers I have had. Great price as well. There may even be more on the shelf still. There was insane amounts of it a few months ago.

    Cheers

RIP Vinnie. One of the bands that got me into metal back in the day. I rarely listen to them anymore, but will always be legendary.

Raining pretty steady since 5:30 this morning...the dogs didn’t even want to go out...starting with same beer as yesterday, Middle Ages’ “Fearless”:

Drove up to Alexandria Bay, NY yesterday, did the 2 Country boat tour in the St. Lawerence, and visited Boldt Castle:

A stunning day on the water and at the Castle. Mrs. Z took tons of photos. I drank new to me NY beer beer on the boat

Today we are planning on visiting a dairy/goat farm, then the Cherry Festival at a winery on the Cayuga Wine Trail...Cheers!

Beer sounds like some of the stuff Decedant Ales has been coming out with.
Double Tropical Smoothie and what not. Extremely tasty brews with tons of fruit and oats. Very creamy mouthful. Sounds delicious!

Fantastic NE APA. Aromas and flavors of big tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, citrus peel/zest, and light pepper/pine hops; with balanced wheat, biscuit dough, rye bready malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Very mild pine, citrus peel/zest, herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body; creamy/bready malt and light sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Lightly increasing lingering bitter dryness. Refreshingly drinkable, super soft feel as usual. Great use of Chinook, Crystal, and Simcoe hops for the style. Very juicy, fruity, and fairly dank/earthy hop complexity; with a perfectly balanced wheat/bready malt backbone. Not overly sweet. This is more dank/earthy than their others with the heavy C hops. Will be buying it all summer.

Still tasting insane. Aromas and flavors of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, pecan, fudge, marshmallow, biscuit, toasted dark bread, caramel, toffee, molasses, vanilla, cream, and light smoke/charcoal. Light roast/char and herbal hop bitterness on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and very full body; with a very smooth, creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel that is amazing. Light slickness, chalky roast, and sticky hops. Lightly increasing dryness from hop/char bitterness; never acrid/astringent. Super smooth, minimal warming 11%. Glad these are in cans now, this meets and even surpasses what I remember when I reviewed it in 2016. Pretty much identical to the one brewed in Europe at the time, but this one is a bit less bitter on the roast. Phenomenal. Hope they make some more soon, I have a couple left.

Today is my 41st birthday! This Birthday Bomb is coming in handy. I barely slept last night. I am very upset about the passing of Vinnie Paul Abbott. Pantera has been a huge part of my life. I have been posting how I am training to be in excellent shape for moshing at an upcoming concert by the vocalist from Pantera, Phil Anselmo, and that is no joke. I have been listening to a lot of Pantera lately, and dreaming of seeing Phil and Vinnie on stage together, just one more time. I won't be having any beers until much later because I am going to Madison, WI, to train with my brother. He is 22. He knows about Pantera because I made him listen to their albums since he was a baby. I always listen to A New Level for my heaviest set when I lift weights, but today I will probably listen to that song for every set. I was planning to just drink beer today, but I will be having my share of Black Tooth Grins. Rest in peace, Vinnie!

First off, a big old man salute to @GreenBayBA , whom I will also join in toasting the legendary Vinnie Paul. Vinnie was one of the biggest reasons I found myself behind the kit back in the very early nineties. His groove and feeling was just second to none. I will post my favorite Pantera song below. As for the beer, I had the original version of this, the 9% ABV, which was kind of a boozy mess. This is better, pretty damn good actually.

    Edit: Happy Birthday Man!

Wife’s out getting her hair done. She’s a blonde and going brunette. I tell her if I wanted a brunette I would’ve married one. Although I’m not gonna lie, I’m excited to see how she’ll look. I know it’ll be good.

    RIP Vinnie

Thank you! I was happy to turn 40, since my age finally caught up with my hairline. But 41 just feels like I am starting to get old.
