Ran a few errands with my wife, then we ended up at The Spotted Dog. I had a farmhouse beer, Bier de Chien, very nice.

    Followed by Marzen, their Oktoberfest.
A busy place, a pleasant hour.

Hanging out in my kitchen watching it rain through the window. My wife moved my bar into the kitchen last time I was out of town, it just feels weird sitting here. Anyway, enjoying this SN Oktoberfest.

My beer store guy warned me it's sour (he knows I'm not a fan of sours), and now I'm telling you, it's really sour... Sour lemon carpet-bombs the palate, and then barely pulls back enough to reveal something like a little piece of a Cinnabon roll sitting in the middle of that tart-scorched earth the sip left behind... and that's about it for nuance... Relatively expensive for an 8% abv tallboy - particularly as it is brewed and canned locally at Great South Bay Brewery in Bayshore, Long Island - it was either $7 or $8...

I'm not a sour lemon guy, but I find myself still drinking it and totally not hating it, but maybe its some form of self-abuse on my part... I think if you understand how totally overpoweringly tart this beer is, and you like that kinda thing, you're gonna love this - and the more seasoned sour drinkers out there may find all sorts of hidden character elements... But for the typical IPA drinker who's expecting a "whipped lemon cream almond frosted cinnamon roll" (like it says on the can), it's not gonna be that... lol

Välkommen till hjorden? Välkommen till elden...

    Trailer for Dark Phoenix dropped...

I was reading comics when the Dark Phoenix saga unfolded (Uncanny X-Men #129-138), and it was some of their best stuff - I was always an X-Men (and Avengers and Punisher guy (far as Marvel goes)), and it ranks as one of the most memorable story lines - I also dig Sophie Turner (and Famke Janssen ), so I really hope the film does it justice...

    Light 'em up, baby!

    German Schwartzbier - https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/styles/31/

Picked this up in Stuttgart, Germany while on vacation. This is a new beer and style to me. I didn't know what I was buying since I don't read German and didn't have a data plan, but am pleasantly surprised. Also from our vacation, poured into a glass from Eagles Nest glass and an Austrian stein posing in the background.

Pours dark brown and a light tan head. Smells of sweat malt and brown sugar.

Tastes of mildly sweet malts, coffee, licorice and ends slightly bitter. Per the style, the bitterness is not from roasted malts (like a porter), but rather the hops.

It reminds me of a mix between a dark lager and a porter. Going to have to find others in this style from my bottle shop.

    Cheers!

Excellent IPL. Great fluffy head retention and foamy lacing on the glass. Aromas and flavors of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, lime, peach, pineapple, apricot, papaya, mango, melon, citrus peel/zest, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate wheat, cracker, white bread malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body, and fairly crisp/clean finishing. Balanced bready/grainy malts and sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Light resins/rinds, light-moderate increasing bitter dryness, no hop astringency. Perfectly clean lagering, no yeasty notes. Refreshingly smooth, not overly aggressive, 6.3%. Feels like a lot of Amarillo/Simcoe as with All Day/Double Trouble. Not surprising. Great juicy, vibrant, dank, and earthy balanced hop complexity; nice pale/wheat malt backbone, minimal residual sweetness from lingering dryness. Worth buying more for sure! 4

Delicious IPA. Awesome head retention and lasting lacing on the glass. Aromas and flavors of big ruby grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, lime, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, citrus peel/rind, mint, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate cracker, biscuit dough, light honey/toasted malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body, and fairly crisp finishing. Balanced creamy/bready/grainy malts and sticky/resinous/rindy hops in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing resin dryness, minimal hop astringency. Very smooth, not overly aggressive, 7%. Citra and MI Chinook hops. Great balanced mix of juicy, dank, and earthy hop complexity; nice sized bready malt backbone, minimal residual sweetness from lingering dryness. Love Chinook, the 2.75 avg is unwarranted, IMO. 3.93

Didn't realize you'd not had a Schwarzbier before - and sorta assumed you would've tried one in Germany. I actually think you'd like more in the style. I might have one of the Deschutes anniversary-ish release left if you can't find some (though I bet you can).
