What beer are you drinking now? #2182

Good morning BAs! Another damp day here in NW PA, but that's OK because I'll be working inside. Today's New Breakfast Beer, courtesy of @Bum4ever and NBS BIF #8:



Best I've had from Mikkeller, so far.

 

Mamos pils and some salami

 

Drank these with some friends last night.

 

Morning break . . .




Nice light golden color with white cap and lacing.

Lovely aroma of dry, crackery malt and floral, spicy hops.

Taste is hop forward with a firm bitterness that also develops a hop brightness as the beer warms up a bit. Malt flavor is dry, crackery and bready, yet malt plays a secondary role here supporting the hops. Not as malty as traditional Pils but I'm getting the impression that old style is not the goal here. Call it an updated take on the Pils style. Not a diminished one, or for that matter a better one, just different in it's own way and it's good.

Medium texture with balancing carbonation.

Overall this is quite good. It would not be my first choice if I had a hankering for a traditional Pils but it certainly has a place of choice for a very good anytime beer with meals or company, or both.

 

Had my first ever Sam Adams IPA and was MUCH better than I was anticipating. Picked these up a few weeks back and they've been sitting there as I was in no rush to try it. Decided to crack one open on the early side today, 11:30 AM and I was impressed. I will definitely buy again.

 

The same beer as on Tuesday, Dragon's Milk BBA Imperial Stout.

A brisk early morning run followed by a light breakfast and sports TV means it's now time for a beer. I've no clue how old this bottle of Arcadia barrel aged Cereal Killer barleywine is? I'm guessing 3-4 years? While the feel is flat it does exhibit some wonderful notes of sweet caramel, cherries and bourbon. A hint of tartness in the finish may be an indication that father time has taken hold? I'm glad I didn't wait any longer.

Light hazy gold color with white cap and good lacing.

Aroma of fresh yeast bread and ripe tropical fruits. I also get citrus (grapefruit) and something resinous.

Flavor on entry is hop forward joined by bready malt mid palate. Hops linger for awhile in the aftertaste with a mild citrus bitterness.

Medium texture with balancing carbonation.

Overall it's a fair stab at a hazy, citrusy, piney hop laden brew with enough malt to make a statement.

 

Post run beer on my day off. Life is good!

Still have a few of these in the fridge.
They change but are still tasty.
I have the day off, so a few chores to do and some Man In The High Castle to watch.
