I love bison. One of the many pleasures of living in Wyoming....a fantastic, amazing slice of America....was the prevalence of bison. Hmmm, maybe there's some Lakota in my DNA???

 

Some tasty Old Brown Dog and a nice stogie out in the shed with the heat on as its a cold friggin day for this time of year. I tend to like brown ales of all kinds as they pair well with cigars.

 

And now, the whiskey barrel-aged Nightmare Fuel...

From River North, 13.3% abv, brewed with coffee, aged in whiskey barrels...

Another solid brew, but - believe it or not - I liked the non-BA version better...


This has the coffee and bittersweet cocoa of the base beer, but mixed in with some oak tannin, molasses-like vanilla from the whiskey, and is more vaporous on the palate - probably a sweet deal for most, but inevitably, the coffee thickness of the base stout is diluted somewhat, and the oak tannins impart a slightly dank tang, which to my tastes, is slightly inferior to the more pure, direct coffee and dark chocolate of the original... Still a great beer, and bound to please fans of the style...

Got my main portion of the decorating done - setting up the tree and lights - while listening to Behemoth's Satanist and Evangelion albums... I found it preferable to the wife's Christmas music and I was far more productive and engaged in my work...

Agree, visited there a bunch, dad was from Sundance. Unfortunately this was long before Melvin brewing existed. We always fished and shot a lot.

I'm pretty confident that today is Beer Turkey Day© (right @TongoRad ?), though I don't think I've seen much advertisement for it this year. I've held on to this 2017 dismal POS since last year intentionally to torture myself with it just for today. More putrid and horrible feeling than ever. A side car of Jagr can't even help this anymore... Mission accomplished . Cheers.
