Incredible as always. Aromas and flavors of huge peanut butter, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, and toasted brown bread; with a touch of herbal hops and vanilla. Light herbal hop and roasted coffee bitterness on the finish. Medium bodied with great bready creaminess in the mouthfeel; touch of chalky roast and sticky hops/PB. Perfect bittersweet balance. Lightly increasing bitter/roasted dryness. Love this even more than the base beer. The PB feels a lot more pronounced in the flavors; and the coffee adds an even deeper level of roasted complexity, to the already complex base malt bill. Very rich flavors for the modest ABV. I really hope DuClaw expands to MI some day, I am addicted to their PB beers. One of my favorites.

Insane DIPA as usual. Aromas and flavors of huge grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berries, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate honey, biscuit, light caramel/toasted malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Good sized pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body, and fairly crisp finishing. Balanced bready/grainy malt, and sticky/resinous/rindy hops in the mouthfeel. Moderate increasing resin dryness, no hop astringency. Super smooth, not overly aggressive, minimal warming 9%. Amazing classic Chinook, Centennial, Simcoe, Cascade, Citra profile. Extremely juicy, vibrant, dank, and earthy balanced hop complexity; great bready malt backbone, with minimal residual sweetness from lingering resin dryness. Well attenuated for the ABV. One of the best west coast DIPAs ever made, especially with having no newer hops. Will get another pack.

    Today's opener...

Komes Raspberry Porter, 8.5% abv, brewed with raspberry juice, vanilla, and chili peppers.... Very interesting beer - and in a good way - I feel like the idea of chili in a stout has been pretty well-explored by now, and the idea of tart berry in beer has been likewise well-trod - but this beer does a real nice job of marrying the two, woven together with vanilla, to create a very compelling porter... The berry is brightly sweet, with a tinge of tang, and the chili heat very subdued, folded into the berry more than standing out on its own - just a vague tingle on the back end - and the vanilla acts like a smoothing agent, lending some depth to the flavors, and complementing the chocolaty roasted malts... Decidedly a more sweet than bitter character, fairly light-bodied, aided in part by the fresh raspberry juice... The vanilla asserts again on the finish with a molasses-like sweetness and a bit of stickiness, kind of grounding the beer in its porter roots... Atypical of my taste preferences of late, and in contradiction to my recent interests in stouts particularly, this was a really enjoyable beer, and I'm super glad it hit my local shelves. This beer, and the brewer's base porter, Komes Baltic Porter, have really impressed me... Good stuff...

Meanwhile, late last night, had some Hillrock bourbon...

It's The Game! It amazes me how many people assume this is a dead season for OSU. It's like everyone forgets they're still 10-1. But in 3 hours everyone will know it's a dead season!

    Ahh . . .

Hazy deeper shade of gold color with white cap and lacing.

Aroma of sharp, herbal hops with a tinge of coffee.

Basically a hop flavor with a substantial malt base. I do not taste the malt so much as sense it. Hops are sharp, bright, herbal, flavorful and not very bitter. The coffee force is not strong in this one, rather more of an afterthought, or, I should say an aftertaste because I notice it primarily in the finish. I think an IPA fan might not catch the coffee at all unless they already knew it was in there.
