What Beer Are You Drinking Now? #2328

Doing a little cleaning up the house today. Need some motivation.



I don’t know what this means, but it’s good stuff.

 

Drinking a new beer from the monopoly from the fourth largest brewery in Sweden, Åbro Småland Eko, 5.5% abv (right). I'm having a side by side with it against the original 5.2% Småland (left). The original is meant to be a Czech style lager with a Czech lager yeast. The color difference is not extreme by any means but you can tell that the original to the left is slightly more amber, which no doubt stems from the Munich malt that this brewery likes to use for most of their brands. The new beer is a bit lighter colored. Aromawise the original is richer, sweeter and maltier. They both have a distinct diacetyl aroma to them, which makes you think of a stereotypical Czech lager brand (a la Pilsner Urquell, Gambrinus, Breznak, Staropramen, Starobrno, Krusovice, Zatec, Rychtar etc.), but the yeastiness is stronger with the left one, the original. The flavor is likewise different, with the original delivering a malty, medium body with sweetness and a good balancing bitterness and mild hop flavor along with some diacetyl. The beer to the right is less sweet and rich, more dry and lighter instead with a drier finish. There's a similar hop flavor however.

I was expecting the new beer to be a heavier version of the original due to the higher abv, but instead the brewery chose to brew a paler, more easy drinking beer with a slightly higher abv.

Did you go to NW Indiana recently or was this a shipment?

Four Fathers was 5 minutes from my doorstep when I lived there - cool little spot with some tasty beers, some times pretty solid brews.

 

Wednesday already? Time for a beer!

Finished up probably the strangest group presentation I've ever had. Time to break out the bubbly!

For those curious, first presenter rambled on for longer than the whole presentation was supposed to take, and still didn't fully cover their section before the teacher gave them the hook, leaving me and another guy with 1 charity minute each to say... something. On the plus side, teacher really liked what we were going to present so we're getting full points despite barely having time to say our names.

One of the songs I was going to cover. It's good and stuck in my head and I'm ok with this. Love me some Doo-wop!

 

What do you drink after a Treehouse? Something totally different and man this stuff from Kettlehead is tasty.
