Is it early? Yes. Too early to start the thread? Maybe. But that’s what the coffee in this Smells Like Bean Spirit is for. Happy Friday, advocates.

The last of my recently-acquired trio of Tree House beers...

Finally got to try this beer - the one I was looking forward to the most from my recent acquisition of a trio of Tree House offerings. And I have to say, I was a little disappointed - probably because my expectations were sky-high. I was expecting something even better than Green (which was outstanding) and unfortunately this one didn't deliver. It was still an excellent NE-style IPA, just not head and shoulders better than Green or even Haze. Canning date was 5/17/19, so still quite fresh. Looks great, nice slightly darker orange color with a fair amount of haze and very nice fluffy white head with lots of lingering lacing, not quite making it into sheets or rings but very close. Smells amazing, lots of deep sweet fruity hop aromas as well as some weaker piney and floral hops. Malt in the background, and a good hit of dankness towards the end. Tastes similarly - the fruit that I could detect included pineapple, passion fruit, mango, papaya, tangerine, lemon, grapefruit. So juicy and well-balanced, excellent tasting with good complexity and depth. Clearly enough to get a 4.25 rating from me, but didn't blow me away (to earn a 4.5) and didn't eclipse the Green or Haze flavors. Smooth, slightly sticky mouthfeel and just enough carbonation. Again, an excellent beer, certainly one of the better-tasting NE-style IPAs I've had, but just couldn't quite compare to the other Tree House beers I've tried.

Having a Lagunitas Phase Change. It's got a whole lot going on. There are aromas & tastes of grapefruit, mango, papaya, lemon pine and orange/tangerine. This is a really good one and I might just have another later.

Good day BAs! Well, it's been six days since I sheared the mixed species inhabiting my "yard" and there's been little growth so I may be able to put off my next safari (I un-split the infinitive) for a couple more days, if Mrs. Lizard doesn't notice. Today's New Breakfast Beer:

I really like this one! Time to buy a case or two!

    Good morning BA
I'm getting a head start on @zid's Dubbel tasting...
I was able to pick up four unreviewed (by me) dubbels in Cincinnati on Monday. Three of which are brand new to me. Add to that a local canned option and a Westmalle in the cellar, and I have 6 dubbels to sample and six mornings of coming home after nightshifts to complete the task.

This Grimbergen Double-Ambree is the lowest rated of the group at 3.73. I found it solid, but not great, and a good value at $2.89/single. My bottle plainly states it's brewed by Kronenbourg and bottled in France, contrary to the BA description.

Cheers all and enjoy the beer in your glass today!

Well, finally here. Too many of y’all MFers on 95. What was a nice spring drive turned sour with an hour delay to go ~15 miles.

Speaking of sour, Strangeways was, in our recollection, an introduction to sour beers that spawned some interest.
First from my tray is Hey Brett, a Brett-fermented oak-aged lager. It’s pretty damn tasty, oak and restrained citrus/musty tartness.

Dr FouDre I is more herbal and cranberry tart with local wildflower honey. Biere de Garde yeast backed by wild yeast (local perhaps) give it a slightly cheesy aspect.

The others are Rappahannock ESB, @Lingenbrau ‘s worst fear, Escape Goat (Weizenbock), and Gallows Humor hoppy dark lager.

    Cheers, all!
