What Beer Are You Drinking Now? #2546

Morning coffee. This is amazing stuff!

 

Fercrissakes....I need to get me a 4 pack, enough peeps have raved about this one.

 

Drinking a new beer released just this month. Key Beer Ljus Lager, 5.6% abv. The color of this one is also amber colored. The aroma is weirdly fruity, there's not much else going on. The flavor is also fruity and a bit tart, it's a bit musty also. It's not clean tasting, yet at the same time there are hardly any beer flavors present in the beer. No malt, no hops. Some mild bitterness only. The body feels watery for being 5.6% abv, this beer must be attenuated to the extreme. This is not a well made beer in my opinion, but it does make me curious about what their brewing process looks like. I have a feeling it involves some non-standard procedures for it to result in a beer like this.

 

Still love the haze, but murky floaty stuff not as much.

 

Early beer ...

 

Another brand new Swedish craft lager. Jämtlands Ekologiska Pilsner. 4.5% abv. The color of this beer is pale golden unlike the two previous beers. It's advertised as a Czech style pilsner. The aroma is fresh and flowery/hoppy with some fermentation esters, but it's not fruity like the previous beer. The taste is pale malt and bright hops with a good balancing bitterness which is less pronounced than in the Pilsner 47. Some yeast esters in the taste also, and a slight bit of diacetyl (that's the Czech influence I guess). The body feels fuller than the 5.6% abv Key Beer. As per the brewery's website this beer uses only pilsner malt (I can believe that based on the pale color) and Hersbrucker and Saaz hops. Simple recipe with good execution equals a good beer. I really like this and I think they did a good job with it.

Taste is malt forward with elements of dark caramel depth and sweetness, but not too sweet, that's held in check by spicy hops. Good balance here between malt and hops with each supporting the other.

 

Lunch beer - Central State’s “Polyjuice Potion”, a sour made in collaboration with Arcade Brewery:



It’s ok. Spent the morning researching contractors for ceramic tile removal and terrazzo restoration and polishing. Ouch...

 

The perfect beer after a short run and the pups first encounter with snow. The same view as yesterday looks a little different. It's going to be a lazy day!

 

2018 Thanksgiving as experiment. Actually I forgot about it because so many incredible other options. Toffee, caramel, biscuit, dates, clove, and Oaked vanilla.

I've been to the dentist and spent four hours prepping the minivan for wax. It's time for a beer...

I can't believe @beergoot beat me to the punch and reviewed & posted this before I could. Very nice use of rum barrels, which can be tricky. Subtle spice and citrus in a good all around sipper. I have another held back for @woodychandler. Looking forward to that review. Cheers all!

 

Hooray! I just told Mrs. Z how much it was going to cost to remove tile floor, then rehab terrazzo underneath, and she has abandoned the project. Celebrating with a cold Jai Alai:
