Getting pretty cold out there. Got our first dusting of snow this morning. Nice and toasty inside.
Something nice and smooth to warm me up.

This is just fantastic with over a year on it.

    Good morning BA
My tour of Europe continues this morning with this English Strong Ale...

Dated L10305. I either missed or misread that in the store, but the first sip confirmed it. It's actually held up pretty well for being on a store shelf for nine years. Molasses, dark fruit and pipe tobacco all thoroughly oxidized. Same place I purchased a 10 year old Samichlaus Helles a few years back. Only place I've found in Indiana with extensive import inventory, but I need to be more careful.

This morning's musical selection from the post nightshift drive home...

Cheers all and enjoy your Thursday!

Mirage Brewing Co. Pleated Khakis German Helles

Clear light gold color with quickly diminishing cap.

Aroma of sweet malt and floral, spicy hops.

Taste of smooth, creamy malt which is rich without being sweet. It's an almost layered effect of flavors which may be the result of more than one type of malt or simply evidence of the brewer's skill in teasing out flavors. However they do it it's well done. Hops play a minor role here, just enough to offset the malt while being otherwise unnoticed.

Medium full texture with balancing carbonation.

Well played, suitable for good food, good company, or both.

Technically this thread doesn't require a person to post a picture of what their drinking. Otherwise it would state that in the title. Unlike the Post A Picture Of Your Latest Beer Haul thread which actually has the word post in the title. Further most, not all people have the opportunity/time to post a picture at times. Most people like to share what their drinking with others and whether they describe or review that beer may be helpful, it is not required like in other threads (ie: New Beer Sunday).
So maybe the next/new thread should read something like this...
Post a Picture of What Beer You Are Drinking Now?

Golden orange juice colored body; thick, frothy head; fine rings of foam cascade down the glass. Fresh orange juice aroma initially; citrus rind. Huge grapefruit taste with an intense hop bitterness; bready malt base. Medium body; warm and acidic with an all-around dryness.

A stupendous hazy double IPA. Beautiful and deliciously complex and tasty.

Drinking Kozel Dark which won a slot among the Christmas beers this year at the monopoly. 3.8% abv. The color is quite dark. The aroma is quite muted, some very light dark malt aroma but that's it. No diacetyl. The flavor is mildly malty and roasted with a slight sweetness that quickly disappears, leaving a dry finish. The hop bitterness is mild and is mostly cancelled out by the malt. It's a light tasting beer overall. Although it is pleasant tasting I wish the flavor was stronger.

I've noticed that quite a few of the Czech beers which are around 4% abv contain sugar (even pale beers), as does this one. I wonder if they add the sugar post fermentation to give it more body, or percieved fullness. I would imagine as much since I don't see the point in drying out these lower gravity beers compared with the higher gravity lager beers.

I found a video of the brewery which was interesting to watch, especially the repitching of the massive lagering barrels.

Greets fellow BA's! Took today and Friday off in commemoration of being another year older and wiser. My friend Barbara is coming over this evening to celebrate, she usually brings along some pretty good beer and I'll be making us some pizza. In the meantime, this isn't too shabby. Spencer Monks IPA.
