Have a good Friday. Not much significant going on these past couple days. I got GTA V off the Epic Games store for free last night, but have plans to continue my Just Cause 4 campaign today instead. The free game release put the servers down for 8 hours, I kept getting a 503 error. Got some steady thunderstorms flying by this morning.

Revisiting Great Lakes Imperial Oyster Stout exactly 21 months later. Tasting really nice. Aromas and flavors of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, oysters, nuttiness, and toasted dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of molasses, licorice, vanilla, raisin, plum, brine, smoke, charcoal, herbal, pepper, pine, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. A bit too fruity/yeasty aromas, but not overwhelming. Light-moderate roast/char and herbal/peppery/pine hop bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, fairly sticky/chalky, and lightly saline balanced mouthfeel that is great. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering hop/char bitterness. Minimal acrid/astringent flavors after the finish. Reminds me of Blackout a lot, but with added briny oysters and cocoa nib notes. A bit fuller body from the higher ABV. Rich and well rounded imperial stout malt complexity; balancing earthy hops and complementing fruity English yeast. Didn't really change much. Retained a lot of similar character as fresh. Was hoping for a bit more rich melanoidin body, but no change. 3.91

BTBAM just released the remaster of their self titled today. It sounds a lot cleaner and brighter!

Good day BAs! Had rain overnight so it looks like the NW PA rice crop is saved! Today's New Breakfast Beer is soooo good (4.09), I might just have another!

I like an IPA with a bit of malt backbone!

Dogs walked and fed...coffee time - KBS:

Bottled 3/5/20. The coffee is vibrant! Bourbon and chocolate right behind. I think I like more than the 2019...will need to do a vertical, maybe later this summer...

Forcast is calling for cooler temps (Mid 80s) and showers. Florida can use some rain. Rare outing with Mrs. Z planned for later today - Publix grocery shopping with plastic gloves and N95s from our hurricane/disaster box packed years ago...Stay safe, and Cheers y’all!

I've recently added doing overnight security shifts to my other duties at work, and so, I'm winding down with an Aslan Klaus, a nice little Kolsch. Perfect 5:15am brew.

I am drinking and comparing doing a 5 months old Westvleteren nr 12 (right), ABV 10.20% and St. Barnadus Abt 12 (left), ABV 10.00%. They are both Belgian Ale Quadrupels based on the same recipe, but they are two different breweries. Westvleteren unlike St. Bernadus is a Trappist. They taste very similar. Plum or Raisin bread, a little bit of yeast and a little bit of booziness but it is very well put together. The St. Bernadus is a tad more prickly (carbon dioxide ) but the Westvleteren is sweeter and has a more significant hop bite. The latter surprised me since that was not at all the impression I got last time I compared the two. In fact this time I liked the St Bernadus better, since the Westvleteren was a bit too sweet. My daughter tasted them too and she agrees.
Usually I drink the Westvleteren nr 12 aged 2 or 3 years, but I wouldn't expect a newer one to taste sweeter. Perhaps it is the release. Anyway, they are both really enjoyable.

Since it fell into my lap the other day, I've followed that Kolsch with an Aslan Coastal Pils. But, I'd rather be doing a 6am side-by-side with St. Bernardus and Westy 12.

Wakey Wakey!!! You guys are at it again I see. May as well join in. With a bit of a palate reset over the last 2-ish weeks (I needed it after palate wrecking a bit from the recent cheap cigar and Hoptimum and Chillwave blasting I gave it) & with no beers at all for a while and a few ambers last night...the hops in this actually pop...and it's only 40 IBU.

It really does have a straight up mild grapefruit rind and a hint of Mosaic-y/onion-y/garlic-y note. It's only slightly off-putting to me but I never noticed it a few weeks ago when I tried it.

    Cheers!
