The other day I had my first Fremont Space Rex and immediately thought it reminded me of Lush. So here's a side-by-side comparison. The Space Rex is dated 8/25, the Lush might be 8/29 -- hard to read.

Lush looks fairly clear, and Space Rex is hazy. Space Rex had a bit more head.

Lush is fruit juice aroma all over the place; Space Rex has it, too, but has a lot of resin.

Lush has resin come out in the taste, pine and grapefruit pith, with juiciness in the background. Space Rex mostly dispenses with the juiciness and shouts pine and resin and grapefruit pith, but is a pretty similar profile overall.

Lush feels smoother, and Space Rex coarser, though about the same thickness.

Overall...happy with either one, but I like Lush more.

    On on!

PS: Breakfast this morning was luxurious -- we've found a good way to use the leftover end pieces of the Beef Wellington roast, which typically have too low of a steak content to support all the pastry and prosciutto and mushroom topping: Chop it up with potatoes, peppers, onions, bacon, and make an effin' delicious hash:

One of the funnest breweries in Sweden is Morgondagens, who have made a name for themselves making candy weisses, or Berliner weisses influence by Swedish candy. This, Paranormal, is their new imprint, looking more internationally, with a bit more variety in styles. Outstanding artwork on the cans, and this first one, Astroling, a gose with black currants, cherries, raspberries, blueberries and vanilla, is damned good.

Live Oak Hefe, just wonderful as always.

More Sonny Rollins, with Thelonious on this great mid 50's record. About half way through The Three-Body Problem and can't put it down so far...

It's been a much needed semi-vacation after the events of the past 2 months. :+1: I probably haven't taken an actual vacation in over 8 years.

Live Oak Oktoberfest at the very recently reopened Hoppy Monk. I was really skeptical about this craft beer restaurant ever reopening again, they have been closed since March. Their gochujang wings are awesome!

For a brewery known for IPAs, this is a damned good lager. Beautiful day, enjoy your Labor Day.

Is that in San Antonio? I have been wanting to try this place out for the longest time, but its been forever since I have made a visit there (I know there is one in El Paso as well, I think?).

Nice holiday afternoon. My partner, the little one, and I decided to spend it painting. For me, that also means pairing with a strong beer and an equally strong cigar.

The cigar has since finished. I'm still working on the beer, and tempted to keep working on the painting, but with my lack of skill, anything I add to this will only make it worse, so I think I'm going to stop now.

So cool to see another one of these out in the wild being cracked. How did it hold up? I have one more in the cellar. One of my most fave stouts when I tried it in the past. The grand marnier barrel is so unque and delicious. Cheers!

I am seeing some good food, good beers and good humor here today, glad I stopped into the Virtual Bar.

    @Foeder82 that's freaking hilarious story.

So. I was hankering for a philly made my way. Cast iron, bell peppers, Fresno peppers, white onions, little celery and some stir fry meat cubed up real tiny. Canoe'd out baguette baked for 5 minutes at 375F with pepper jack cheese inside top and bottom hollows, then filled thusly and baked again for 7 minutes at 375F.

It baked up real nice. Really good with malty Sam Adams Oktoberfest. Little bit of late summer corn on da' cob.

And it passed the slip test as well as the bite test for clean bites with no drips/no drops.

    Cheers!

Passing the slip test and the bite test requires some serious sandwich engineering chops, especially with any variety of Philly. Well done!
