Well, it is the weekend. And while there was debate recently about when one should start this thread, these are the unofficial rules that I propose should apply regarding starting Saturday’s thread. And if I am wrong, then the moderators can correct me.

    1) is it past 5am East Coast US time?
    2) has the New Beer Weekend thread been started?
    3) did @MattyG85 post his Friday night beers?

Anyhow, the great thing about this thread is that we are all unique individuals and have our own interests separate from drinking great beer. Two of mine are building LEGOS (either with my kids or the LEGO Architecture on my own) and watching pro wrestling. This weekend, the biggest Japanese wrestling league started their annual tournament. I realized that was happening while working on my Empire State Building set, and decided to stay up, watch the live show online, and have another beer.

So while some may consider a nerd, I’m happy with myself, I’m happy with the world for a short period of time, and most importantly, I’m happy with this amazing beer. And if you can have any little bit of happiness today, virtual bar brothers and sisters, then why not enjoy it? Cheers!

[IMG] Nice opening Matt and all that matters to me, is I get to drink one before I go to my job at the beer store at 8am. Cheers to all and I am happy I didn’t need to open this thread. Also this is actually pretty darn tasty and hazy.

Good day BAs! Cold, foggy, and some frost in spots this morning - I covered my peppers last night so they should have been OK. Today's New Breakfast Beer (which may become a cross-post with NBW):

Great opening, Matt. You're not the only nerd here! I also like your opening rules except I'd say 7am eastern.

That's the sign of a good weekend ahead!

Oh, great choice, and that's a morning warmer for sure. One of my faves from Cumbre. I also love that their stouts aren't "over the top" big even with some (5 months of) barrel aging. I think they used Four Roses Bourbon for this latest batch. Delicious, not ridiculously high ABV, slightly restrained. And I like that the barrel characteristics don't drown out the base imperial stout character of this beer.
    Cheers!

I just made my second pour to finish the bomber and I’m really liking drinking this RIS. I’ve been to La Cumbre a few times over the years and I think their beers are awesome...first time with one of its stouts - great stuff. Cheers!

It’s going to be a good day. A little plumbing project this morning, then checking out the new brewery in town this afternoon. The beer is Trouble No More, an Imperial Stout from Eagle Park Brewing with toasted coconut, cacao nibs, and almonds.
Smells like straight Amaretto with an extra splash of almond extract.

3 New Power Classics now at WFM. Happy last week of summer.
    Furious | Surly Brewing | IPA | 6.7%
    4.33
    /5 rDev +0.7%
    look: 4.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.25
my first review of brewer, glad I finally found it at WFM which has greatly improved its beer selection in 07701.
    a) Perfect masuculine hazed dark amber body, supporting eggshell thick, lasting and lacing head.
    s) Big, plentiful, hop over scottish malt.
    t) Lots of balance with the scots malt, that smoky, woody, peaty, earthy bread feel against the pine, floral, citrus rind, and pepper hop overcast.
    f) Plenty of mouth weight and tickle.
    o) Deserves its high ranking on BA. Sum greater than parts esp in densely flavored masculine beer akin to Arrogant Bastard in a 6.8% package.

    Alpha King | 3 Floyds | APA | 6.66%
    4.33
    /5 rDev +1.6%
    look: 4.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.25
2d review of 3 Floyds, 1st of this classic, in my fave APA style. Love to taste vs Dales Pale (my amber APA standard)
    a) Pours deep aber clear body, sports eggshell head that lasts and laces. Classic.
    s) caramel, strongly pine hopped.
    t) Strong bite, citric rind and pine sap bitter hop, over a see-saw caramel, creamy malt base. Sharp marmalade, which despite the pepper is sweet.
    f) creamy / bitter which is a nice see-saw feel. Tingly,
    o) Equal or better than my APA gold standards such as Dales.

    Gumballhead | 3 Floyds | APA-Wheat | 5.6%
    4.24
    /5 rDev +0.7%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.5
3rd from 3 Floyds which is now sold at WFM in 07701. 3 Floyds deservedly well loved.
    a) Slight hazy golden body with a thick foam white head that lasts and laces.
    s) Hop lemon zest flowers over yeasty wheat french bread.
    t) Hops like IPA, lemon flowers and zest, some bubble gum, and french bread baking.
    f) Tingly, clean, juicy, silky.
    o) Sum greater than the parts, lovely easy summer drinker. Could be a regular.

I didn't have a later beer with dinner last night (I shifted to wine), so I had no chance to show off @micada 's generously provided pierogies.

First off: here's my afternoon beer (it feels like morning to me): Wicked Weed's German Chocolate Cake, in the process of being reviewed for New Beer Weekend. If you, too, are having a beer for the very first time (a new beer for you), and you'd like to tell us a bit about how it tastes, feels, and smells, why not swing by and join us? :grinning:

And now, as mentioned, last night's dinner:

Farmer's cheese pierogies (plated here unadorned and sans sour cream), roasted broccoli, and a quickly improvised butter-panko-crusted chicken (cream cheese and blue cheese smeared) topped with hot honey sauce. I even broke out the fancy plates.

Pretty damn happy with the chicken (it rapidly disappeared). But: what about the pierogies?

Obviously, I devoured mine (delicious), but if you want a more challenging audience, how about the critique of a preteen girl (about only 5 minutes after serving)?

Me: "Do you like the pierogies?"
Her: "Oh, that's what those were?"
M: "Yeah, what do you think?"
    H: "Well, they're gone, so .... "

Yeah, I think you can say everyone loved them. :grinning:

    Cheers all!

This Oktoberfest was a dud, perhaps too old (Bottled the 85th day of 2020). Glad I had a fresh Hofbrau tapped this week, and have one more planned for tomorrow.

Hacker Pschorr Oktoberfest Marzen (11.2 oz bottle 5.8%), bottle code date 2020 (85th day), BB 03 / 2021.
