I'm welcoming 2021 with a Hootie from Sixpoint. It's a Hazy IPA. It's juicy and full of tropical & citrus fruits. There's pineapple orange and mango. It's a solid NEIPA, I'd get it again.

I am a simple man; I see a corned beef and I give a like. You get bonus points if you made pastrami! How are you cooking it? If I'm using a cryovac flat like you have there I generally use a slow cooker. It is smokable but it i easy to dry out so if you wanted pastrami I would smoke it a couple hours and finish in the oven in a pan with a foil tent over it

    Cheers!

Extra points for the Steel as well

Hit my 500th written review and after 7 years of being into beer as a hobby, as a living and as a writer with a dozen publications later, 2,000 ticks, studying German Culture, interviewing brewers like Augie Carton at his brewery plus others, I must say it’s been quite the trip. Not a show off. It’s taken a WHILE (years) to prove my knowledge and myself and I’m starting 2021 with a THANK YOU to you Beer Advocate for the start of it all.

    Big Muddy Brewing Company
    S’mores Stout. 5.5% ABV
    Murphysboro, Illinois.

cant find any info beside “malt beverage with natural flavors” and I probably wouldn’t have bought this is I saw that but here goes .... quick thoughts.

Twist off top pours a Deep brown. Mahogany. Tawny head. Smells of chocolate. Coconut vanilla. Some roasty malts. Taste follows. The marshmallow aspect is similar to moon pies snacks. Feel is light not sticky. It’s pretty well balanced as well with its acidity. It’s actually good. Reminds me of my early days of craft beer. Feels nostalgic the first time. Not much too it. Pretty straight forward. It’s a s’mores flavored stout. The graham is there but comes across as more coconut. I like it. It doesn’t feel like candy.

....so you truly can’t judge a beer by its label or price at $1.50 a bottle for these guys.

I'm closing out New Year's Day with a Batsquatch from Rogue. It's a NEIPA. It's a real looker, with good retention and beautiful lacing. It's bright and fruity on the nose with orange, grapefruit and pineapple on the palate. I rated it at 4.18, a chunk above it's BA average of 3.97.
