Good morning beautiful lads and lassies!

I'm not usually up early enough to get this party started, but I've failed to fall asleep yet, so I figured I'd return to a bottle I opened around midnight...

Three Floyds - Dark Lord 2019

I believe I owe Mr. @eppie82 the thank you for this one. He sent me this ages ago - probably when it was fresh, and I'm only just now getting to it. I'm not sure how this one drank fresh, but with 2 years on it, I actually quite like it. It's sweet, yes, and that Indian sugar is quite prominent, but this is easily the most Russian imperial sweet stout I've had. Very prominent roast and even some earthy hop character. No real coffee at this point, but the vanilla is nicely subtle, and definitely adds something. A polarising beer, but overall, I actually really enjoy it. Definitely glad I got the chance to try it.

I bet a barrel would work wonders here.

Cheers, everyone! I hope you all have a wonderful Thursday. Or Friday, if you're putting marmite on your toast this morning.

Nice kickoff this morning @SierraNevallagash ! I've only had the good fortune to have a Dark Lord beer once, in 2018 when I poured it as a volunteer at FOBAB, which I really hope returns this Fall.

I usually save fruit beers for warmer weather, but had a taste for one this morning.

I can definitely see how it could lend itself to some amazing barrel-aged variants. Also, considering it debuted in 2002, I can only imagine how unique and insane of a stout it was back then. Must have been a truly one-of-a-kind beer 20 years ago.

Volunteering at FOBAB...now that sounds like one hell of an experience! You must have your fair share of fond memories from that!

And Oscar Peterson was incredible. Just getting that out of the way.

I’m hoping and praying for FOBAB this year, should happen given the vaccine projections! Just didn’t feel right not having it, hurt more than expected, has become a tradition for us

Thanks.I poured Chemtrail Mix in 2018, it tapped out quick. I've enjoyed both volunteering and attending the festival, learn a lot each time and love the exposure to so many great breweries. It's a great festival for those who love barrel aged stouts barleywines, wilds, sours, etc.

Never attended a Dark Lord Day, have you attended? Hope 3Floyds can resume DLD soon and eventually open a taproom. I really loved every trip to their taproom in the past (music, beer, food and staff were all excellent) and was heartbroken when they announced the closure late last year.

Yes me too. I am really hopeful they can run the event and I can volunteer again. I've only been to the past two after learning about it in the Great Lakes forum, but plan on going each year once they resume again. The guild is offering a variety case of beers this Spring.

Video sums up what FOBAB looks like, hosted for at least the past few years at my university UIC.

Morning BA's. Another Texas snow day. Finally got power back at 7 last night and it has stayed on. Sleet this morning and 2-3 inches more snow today.

This beer is great and a good deal at $9 a six pack.

Very good for $15 per 6. Nice amount of citrus-y and grassy bitterness. Cheers!
