[IMG] Tonight's Blind Battle Beer Tasting Lineup: (All 3 out of 3 pairs correctly identified blind)

    1) Defiance Brewing Kansas American Wheat (5.7%): A wheat ale from Hays, Kansas picked up on the road that has strong a tart fruit flavors of lemon, pear, and juicyfruit with a strong yeast presence. Extremely fermented and possibly not intentionally.
    versus
    2) Lake of the Woods' Lakeside Kolsch (5.0%): A Kolsch-style ale from Ontario, Canada that has flavors of wheat, some orange citrus, with a smooth German bready malt finish. Smooth and bready.

    3) Bells' Oberon (5.3%): A wheat ale from Michigan with subtly sweet flavors of dried orange and orange gummy flavors atop a wheat malt body.
    versus
    4) Sam Adam's Summer Ale (5.8%): A citrus wheat ale from Boston that has flavors of citrus, wheat, with a bread spice from the African Grains of Paradise used in this beer.

    5) Dogfish Head Hazy-O-IPA (7.1%): A hazy IPA from Delaware brewed with oat malt and oat milk to give the IPA a creamy and smooth mouthfeel after flavors of orange and tropical creamsicle. Drinks much like a milkshake IPA.
    versus
    6) Toppling Goliath’s King Sue IPA (7.8%): A double hazy IPA from Decorah, Iowa brewed with Citra hops that has flavors of orange citrus, with some pineapple and mango sweetness. Smooth and creamy.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Winners:

    2) Lake of the Woods, Lakeside Kolsch:
This beer didn't drinks quite like the Kolsch that I was expecting. It has nice wheat and yeast flavors, light fruit, but then a strong and malty German bread flavor to finish.
Not sure what is going on with the local Kansas beer. Extremely fermented and possibly unintentionally. Not an American Wheat, but rather has tart fruit and yeasty flavors that drank quite interesting. I suspect there was some unintentional fermentation that happened here.

    4) Sam Adams Summer Ale: This beer has fantastic citrus flavors with the African Grains of Paradise. These grains provide an interesting lemon/lime and mint flavor with hints of pepper and spice. Would describe it if you turned Sprite into a beer.

    6) Toppling Goliath King Sue: Sometimes I get down on this beer, because this beer released in 2014, it's often less aromatic and juicy than some of the 2021 hazy IPAs. Still, I think this is one of the gold-standards of NEIPA style that balances juicy with a smooth body. Many can do the former, but it's difficult to do both.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Have you tried Sam Adam's Summer Ale and what did you think of the Grains of Paradise?
Have you tried Dogfish Head Hazy-O-IPA and did you think it drank like a milkshake IPA?
Do you think Toppling Goliath's King Sue still stands up to some of the great hazy IPAs of today?

Absolutely do not, he said sadly.

But a little trip for a family celebration found me in such a place that does have Pliny.

Moved on while catching up with a blast from the past who just bought me a beer:

Well, shit. Had so much time enjoying talking to him we’ve moved onto another beer. Sorry, it’ll likely be something from Portland.

(I can say I am right now smelling weed)

Wife not sure if she’s ever seen Saving Private Ryan. :no_mouth: We’ve only been married about nine years and I’m not sure how this hasn’t come up. Anyway, I told her she would certainly know if she ever saw it. So, that movie is about to start. Cheers!

I'm glad I bought another pack of this yesterday: Ludlam Island Brewing's The Big Dirty. A dense, flavorful, 9% DIPA, hopped with Simcoe, Mosaic, and Citra Lupulin Powder, it's fruity, sticky, and dank. Great to drink on a sultry day. I should have bought 2 more packs.

Well done sir. I remember seeing a ton of puffed up eyes when I walked out of the Theater for that one. Unlike Titanic, where I was mad more people didn't die due to the snail-like pace of plot. The opening 3 minutes, damn
