    I can't argue with the radials comment, but dang are they messy...I have spent too much time wiping up oil drips from them. But if we are talking radials, you will like this pic of the Jug at POF. Hard to beat that P&W R2800 for impressive smoke and noise on start-up, whether it be in the Jug or Corsair.     If you ever saw the Reno Air Races? The Mustangs sound different than the radial powered Rare Bear. Or the Corsair or the Wildcat and some of those engines were Packard built by license in USA. 2011 RIP Jimmy Leeward and Race #177 "Galloping Ghost" :cry: It wasn't pretty.:sob:
    The Sea Furys are fast too and have a Wright Cyclone 3350 Radial what Rare Bear is modified with.



    The twin-engines of a Tigercat had a different sound.

    Drekker Never Have I Ever DNEIPA, 8% ABV. Pours hazy pale yellow with a 3-finger white head that left great lacing. Nose is sweet tropical fruit and citrus. Taste is citrus, juicy, slightly sweet, with a sharp bitter bite. Excellent mouthfeel, overall very good.

    No, never saw "any" air race. I'd love to.

    Along the same lines, like any vehicle with an engine, specifically planes, they all have a unique sound signature.

    Being in Colorado Springs, numerous aircraft, vintage to modern, fly through the air space, and while I can't identify every one, there are plenty of times I can ID what's flying overhead (I'm situated on a popular path for fixed and rotor-winged aircraft to fly towards the USAFA or just heading into the Rockies). I love testing my 'self-knowledge' by IDing a plane by it's sound.

    I do admit that some of the newer aircraft have me confused, but then again, it's just a matter of associating a visual recce with the sound signature...so as long as the eyesight and hearing hold out, I'll edge-u-meh-cate myself...:sunglasses:

    I was face down, drunk on tequila and crying like a baby after the adrenaline wore off in the Peppermill Hotel. I never saw a plane crash. The races were over Friday. Everybody went home. I didn't go back. I liked Reno. They had a cool band.
